Anxiety Attacks First Thing in the Morning

This happens to me every single morning. I try to center myself then get up and drink some coffee with my antidepressants.

Go to my happy place - I love it!! That's basically been my approach, try to ground myself, view the thoughts as just white noise. Then I do some meditation to centre my thoughts and mind. This usually works pretty good, I think I'm just more triggered from the things I've read lately on this board and in books on PTSD. My usually coping strategy isn't quite cutting it (as much as I'd like) but maybe that's to be expected.

I tried Cindy's idea of using a stress ball - I couldn't find my ball, so I used a loonie (that's a Canadian dollar coin), turning it over and over and feeling the face of it. It helped give me some alternative input to my thoughts anyway.

Now, back to "The Healing Self-talk Channel", already in progress ;)
In with the positive, out with the negative
In with the positive, out with the negative
In with the positive, out with the negative...

thanks again everybody,
Dave

Cragger - I just love the image of using a loonie, maybe also add as a mantra "I am not a loonie, I am holding a loonie" :)

I sometimes find hugging a pillow comforting when I have panic attacks in the morning (in bed)- it calms my stomach.

Auburngirl, that is a good idea... I would just end up screwing up the mantra though, and driving myself into the "loonie bin". Ha ha, ho ho, oh boy ;p OK, yours was funnier ;P

I too find when I'm at my worst, snuggling up with a pillow and turning my back to everything else is the way to go.

Mercy, I'm going to try your music suggestion as well, that sounds good.
