Hi, I'm back. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experience with anxiety medication.

I have never taken any prescription medications before.

I finally broke down and talked to my doctor about the constant anxiety I have been experiencing. At first he wanted me to stop therapy because he felt I didn't have the coping skills in place, and then talked to me about the physical effects of such strong anxiety for such a prolonged period. It has been getting slowly worse for the past 9 months.

He first tried some natural anti anxiety medications. I didn't notice any difference.

So today I was prescribed Alprazolam.

Does any one have experience with this. I know nothing about anything. I don't know anything about how it works or what to watch out for.

I am not going to stop therapy. I am hoping that if this medication can ease the anxiety I might actually be able to not just disassociate and maybe actually talk to my therapist.

Before getting the medication, I would do some research and talk to your doctor. I was on Sertraline and the only thing it did was calm me down. I still found myself dealing with racing thoughts and the occasional bout of becoming wound up even with the meds.

It's also known as Xanax. This medication is quick acting and short lasting. It can cause dependence if you take it regularly or overuse it. Doctors usually prescribe it as needed. I personally didn't like it and like Ativan instead.

I am finding it doesn't completely elevate the anxiety, and I took one 2 hours ago, and the anxiety is strong again. I don't want to take to much. It says as needed but I wouldn't want to take it every 2 hours. I'll call my doctor.
