Any Movie Recommendations?

Artista, I am LOL thinking of the misadventures of Clark W. Griswold and clan. Not a lot can beat the appearance of Cousin Eddy and his "posh" RV not to mention Snots the dog. I'm gonna have to put that one in my NetFlix cue ; )

Yes, I admit it. NetFlix is my answer to the whole PTSD-movie dilemma. I am spoiled. I rent what I want, no effort, no lines, no dealing with deadlines to get the disk back before the past deadline fees start racking up. No one sees you bawling your eyes out in the theater or slinking to your car trying to avoid imagined dangers from those pesky triggers embedded in the celluloid. Back when I was depressed or hyper-vigilant I could just let the United State Post Office worry about the logistics of it all. Like I said--lazy. But it beats the heck out of having to venture out on the days when ya just wanna hide.

This week's offering The Soloist.

A ridiculously funny one is Step Brothers and The Hangover. A recent one I saw which is a tear jerker is My Sister's Keeper, Avatar was good. I always enjoyed Independence Day and Armegeddon. We see all our movies at home, as it's cheaper and more comfortable. As for sitcoms, I like Malcom in the Middle, and George Lopez.

The movie "Napolian" is very cute! Written from the perspective of a puppy! Thinking he wants to be someone else other than who he is... NIKI

Cinderella Man

For me, Cinderella Man is one of the best movie. It is a true story film based on the legendary boxer James " Cinderella Man" Braddock who struggles to take care of his family during the great depression. But he strive harder and fight not for money but for his family even fighting with broken hand at times and starts winning more and more matches, he gets the chance of a lifetime and he became the heavyweight champion.

What' Your Favorite Line?

Hey,

I wanted to start a new thread but I think it fits fine here.

I know this has nothing to do with PTSD but I wanted to say that I made myself into a film noir fan. I started watching old french films and then began to be interested in American/English noir of the 40's and 50’s. I like the way the characters talk and act. My favorite one is “Kansas City Confidential” right followed by “D.O.A”.

I was wondering if among you people, there is some who share this hobby. What’s your favorite films and what lines do you recall that impacted you? (might be or not PTSD related)

Some random lines from Kansas City confidential (1952):

Joe Rolfe: I got my invitation to the party. I take Pete Harris' share.
Kane Boyd: You gave Harris the double-shuffle.

Joe Rolfe: You got it wrong, pal. The cops paid him off in full, like gambling. A man puts up his bet. He's entitled to be paid off if he wins. Harris lost.

And form D.O.A. (1950):
Kitty: I've never seen you in here before.
Frank Bigelow: That's because I've never been here.:thumbs-up

Both of those kick arse... the missus was in tears with 7 pounds. No wonder Will Smith got such rave reviews over that one... pretty heart string pulling material.

Bruce Lee Destroys Two Ping Pong Experts Playing With Nunchucks

Here's my movie recommendation - one minute long. Think you've seen it all? This one deserves to go prime time. I'm stunned.
Un-freaking-believable.

BTW - Bruce Lee wasn't a product of Hollywood, he grew up fighting for his life as a young boy on the gang-infested streets of post WWII Hong Kong.

I don't know if this thread is still active but I'm a film egg-head so decided to add to it.

The originator of this thread wanted it to be about movies of hope, healing, self awareness & motivation ... so here are a few I've loved that hopefully fit that criteria which others might (hopefully) like :)

I've ordered them in English speaking first, subtitled second...

The Blind Side (USA) - based on a true story. Incredible story of triumph.
I Am Sam (USA) - the most beautiful movie I've ever seen.
Children Of The Silk Road (USA I think) - extraordinary, poss triggering - war themes
Up Close & Personal (USA) - kinda cheesy but a story about standing on your own two feet.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (USA)
Michael Clayton (USA)
The Soloist (USA)

I've Loved You So Long (French)

The King's Speech (USA or English?)
Elizabeth: The Golden Age (USA)
A Beautiful Mind (USA)
The Painted Veil (USA) - again, redemptive
Runaway Jury (USA) - a classic legal drama. Brilliant.

Ocean's 13 (USA) - actually very funny.
Four Weddings & A Funeral (USA or English? Not sure) - hilarious, sad, happy.

Due Date (USA) - absurd, ridiculous, funny, touching.

Subtitled
Ponette (French) - very sweet story about how a small child deals with the death of her mother - poss triggering.

The Lives of Others (German) - redemptive
Kolya (Polish or Czech - can't recall) - charming story about a man who is more or less adopted by a little boy.

What films of hope, healing, self awareness & motivation work for you ??
I'm really keen to know :)
