@The Albatross I was in San Antonio on Friday and in a nearby town Saturday - Monday. San Antonio was braced for massive flooding and rains but there wasn't even a third of what was expected. There were no major closures or ISD delays that I was aware of, and everyone resumed normal activity Monday morning. If they are active duty, could they have been diverted for disaster relief?
I am also very worried for Beaumont. They have an alligator farm that was, as of a day or two ago, a foot away from the alligators being able to escape. Lots of them. Luckily, the venomous snakes were taken care of or moved. Can you imagine having that threat added to everything else?
I know Houston is in a once of a lifetime flood and I, too, have many friends that are still sheltering in place in their homes. But let's also remember all the other areas that have been devastated too -- Corpus Christi, Rock Port, Beaumont, to name a few.
@TexCat I saw someone that I already despise say yesterday that the flood was due to mankind's cancerous and selfish ways and that we need to accept the change mother nature has put in motion. Um wtf? I also so a professor tweet something about how Harvey was Texas' punishment for being a red state (paraphrased), but that professor has since been fired ;)
Try to avoid that thread. Watch some rescues, if you can. See all of the ordinary people and businesses coming together, buying all the boats and canoes, and hauling ass that way to do anything they can. See the group of strangers form a human chain to rescue an elderly handicapped man from his car that is about to be overtaken by water. See the first responders carrying people's children and pets through the water to safety. There is bad, there will always be bad, but man is there so much good too!
