@dulcia and @Tex Cat, if yall know of smaller places that need help for evacuess or simply feeding people ,could you please start listing them.... I am going to get a list of churches who are helping with very little money....
I have cleared this Admin, to list places we can donate... legitimate places that your money will go directly to the people.... and would suggest donating to the Salvation Army as 98cents on the dollar goes to helping others....
Others want to help but don't know where to send anything... just a loving suggestion... they can do more with cash... if you have things you want to send, I will see who and where it can be sent.... but people are still unable to get into many places as it is still flooded . so money would be faster and help more.... will get this info for anyone who wants to help.... thank you from our Texas hearts !!!!

Yep, Salvation Army and Red Cross. But so good of you to think of local churches, who are probably stretched beyond their means.

Also! If y'all have any able bodied friends or family that are out of work (@TexCat, some commission-based people you know might find this helpful if they are able), Rebuild Houston is hiring immediately for home/commercial clean-up and construction. Pay is listed as $15-25/hour, commensurate with experience, but no previous experience is required. Just need two valid forms of ID, a pair of work boots, and able to pass a physical exam. The posting is through Level Employment.

@ladee, I'll look up some places and get back to you. Only one I know for sure of off the top of my head (non profit with money going directly to boots on ground) is Austin Pets Alive, who is just one of the many local rescue orgs picking up the slack caused by SE Texas animal shelters and rescues being destroyed, on top of the increased numbers of lost/found pets since the storm.

The difference between a church meal and a Red Cross meal is one to behold.... I am not a fan of the Red Cross, but I do know where the money goes with the Salvation Army.... straight to the people in need....
All these little towns that still have water to the roof is needing help.... the money trickles down very slowly to the smaller towns.... but the churches step up and use their own funds to get big nutritious meals to the people, and especially the children.... who are a lot more traumatized that people see or understand.... they don't push their religion on anyone, they just feed people, and give out blankets and diapers and toothpaste..... so will get that list started soon... and anyone else who knows of places , please please, include them.... This is going to go on for a very long time....

Ok, here is a place to start.... One thing you can do is Google 'Golden Triangle Churches'.... should be a huge list, as there are churches everywhere !!!!! And please keep in mind mail is not running in most places yet, so possibly you can call and make a donation over the phone... you will have to Google that church to get the phone number...

And yes @dulcia... won't say much about the Red Cross as to not start anything , now is not the time.... but it is never our first choice down here.... and as far as animal rescue, people are coming from everywhere to help with this, as you know....

Donation Ideas:

Humane Society (animals; Houston, San Antonio)
Austin Pets Alive (animals; also San Antonio Pets Alive)
Habitat for Horses (horses)
Food Banks (Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Southeast Texas...)
American Kidney Fund (helping dialysis patients affected by Harvey)
Save the Children (they have a Hurricane Harvey Children's Relief Fund)
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

If you're unsure about any of the charities here, or any others, you can check them out on a site called Charity Navigator.

Also most churches, small or large, can accept online donations either through PayPal or the church website. Just in case anyone is wary of giving card info over the phone.

This is a local nonprofit created I think after Katrina that gets underwear to shelters. It's weird to think about but one of the basics to feeling clean and safe.

The site says it's for schools but they've already delivered over 30,000 to Houston evacuees and they're requesting volunteers to pick up the surge of Amazon packages at the post office. Here's the donation link

Thanks to all of you who are gathering all of this information and what a great humanitarian effort is by all of you. I am not in a place to give anything but I am so greatly encouraged that so much good help is available. Very grateful to anyone who can give something to help the good people of Texas.

There was an interview on the radio this afternoon with a meteorologist from Houston. Apparently some folks started a Go Fund Me page to raise money so he can take a vacation once things settle down. (He's been work nearly 24/7 since before storm hit.) He said, as a government employee, he can't take the money, even if he wanted to. He's asked that the money go to local people who will need it to clean up & rebuild.
