1. Someone is complimenting you
2. Discussions about money
3. In a store or generally around crowds of people
4. Someone makes a hint of an accusation while talking to you even when they might not be accusing you at all

Have you figured out why?

Hi StrongerNow -
I have some of the same "triggers" for dissociation -- I have sever dissociation problems and have only just begun to realize I even do this - I haven't figured out the whys yet. Funny thing is that until recently I didn't realize the panic to dissociation modes in crowds were not normal. My family used to make fun of me for my inability to go anywhere with crowds (forget about Christmas Shopping at the Mall!) Money for me was a big instigator for violent fights between my parents; my mother would have us hide her credit card bills and we would hope our father didn't find out or we all got hell. I think this is why it is a trigger for me. And compliments - if it is of a physical nature, like you look nice etc. and from the opposite sex - forget about it - I sink to my feet and disappear through the floor - probably due to being sexually abused as a child by people who talked nicely to me. But I think each person's response to outward stimuli in these situations is different, but can be probably traced to some traumatic event or triggering sense associated with the topic. I find it a relief to know that I am not the only one who does this. Hope you do to!

The money thing totally makes sense now. I wish I knew the other ones. Knowing why really helps me when in those situations. I find it easier to bring myself back because its safe.
