Are You On Disability For Ptsd?

I used to have a 40 hour a week job until I couldn't handle it any more. I've been classified as disabled for the past year but I want to have a normal 9-5 job and have a normal boring life. I need to find a balance of something I enjoy and something that I can deal with.

If in the states there is a work program called "Ticket to Work". The idea is it will help with school or training so eventually you can go back to work while still getting disability. I wasn't able to utilize it but it's a viable option.

There are a few legit work at home computer jobs. (Be careful most of them listed on line are a ripoff.) It's a kind of customer service setup where you fill out warranty information or setup appointments. There are a few people on my Freecycle sites that do this. I would have to go back and find the list of sites in my archive but if anyone wants the list let me know.

I've always had difficulty keeping- or staying- at a job because I always struggle with authority figures.

So called 'Authority Figures' are just people who are as f*cked up as anybody else. Half the time they shouldn't even be in those positions because they don't care about anyone. I get paranoid too, or hypervigilant that they are going to pull some shit on me. Usually, something happened that didn't have to happen. I get sick and tired of people who have no idea what they are doing trying to tell me what to do.

Im on disability. However, I don't feel retired. I never got started...

Im not sure what I think of the work world or how I will fit in. Iv'e worked brutally hard at recovery work to get better, and Im getting better. I go to church, play drums, create music, go to 12 step groups, ride mountain bikes, use my telescopes.. I work with others helping with yard-work at times. Hmm.. Kind a sounds like Im retired. Im not sure what to think of this!

I feel that I have activity capacity! I have symptoms yet Im striving to get better, be more active.

The traditional society structural model for work seems to be out of the question; its not that I cant be active at somethings. I am perplexed dealing with the traditional work model. My symptoms do not fit society.

I have to work. I live on my own and the bills and mortgage payments are mine to pay.

Part of my c-ptsd is related to who I work for and where I work, which is not helping me. But until I can cope with even getting through an interview, never mind keeping a different job I have no choice but to stay where I am.

I struggle everyday in finding something useful to do with myself. I have recently thought about opening a dog rescue on a small format. I only tolerate dogs and kids to any great degree. Like many here I no longer play well with others.

Trying to get back to school and work a job. I was smoking pot for a while heavily because it eased a lot of the anxious/jumpiness I felt and it gave me a "psychic cushion" to deal with my raw 'self' being exposed and out in the open, as I'm used to being dissociated and blocking things out. Probably not the best solution, but given the fact that most jobs don't provide medical/psychiatric insurance (but provide dental and eye insurance?) I had to find some kind of way to get through.:D But it can sabotage you because most jobs require urinary analysis, and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) stays in your system (depending on your frequency of smoking, weight, and metabolism) for quite some time.

I know that I gotta stay persistent and STOP making excuses for myself. That will keep me trapped and I'm so close to having things the way that works for me. Gotta get selfish unfortunately.

I can't agree with the self medication. It's a crutch and self defeating. There are normally programs out there that can assist. In the US there is medicare/medicaid that will provide options for therapy and medications if needed to stabilize your mood. Set a couple of short term goals to work on. For instance this week find out what programs are available and set up appointments if you can. It's a journey of one step at a time.

I dive 1 hour a day to and from work, 5 days a week. I have recently convinced my employer to reduced my schedule down to 3 days. I am not sure how I have managed to work so many hours on so little sleep, and I am looking foward to having more time to take care of myself.

I am on Social Security Disability and have been for over ten years. I've tried a few times to go back to work but never been successful. About ten months ago I got a part-time job that is strictly work-at-home. It is a struggle at times and I have to be careful not to try to work too many hours or I get completely overwhelmed and life starts to fall apart. I have had a couple of times when my doctor has made me take several weeks off to get myself back on track. But otherwise, so far so good with working about 10-15 hours per week.

There are a lot of work at home scams out on the internet. I'm very fortunate that there are a couple of major corporations in my area that hire work-at-home employees. For the company I work for, you have to live within a certain distance of one of their main centers and there are only three areas of the country where they hire employees. Most well known, reputable companies seem to have similar rules regarding their work at home employee's locations in relation to the company's location.

For those that are interested, I do know of several reputable companies that hire at home employees. Of course you would have to check online with each individual company to see if they are currently hiring and their specific requirements. If you live in the United States...Hilton, Apple, 1-800-FLOWERS, HSN (Home Shopping Network), and West at Home are all reputable companies that hire at home employees. All of these companies are ones that I have personally known one or more people who worked for them as at-home employees. I know them to be legitimate work at home opportunities.

I'm not sure if that is really helpful to anyone, but just thought I'd share my experience and knowledge on the subject.

I'm not on disability for PTSD. I'm still in school, and I wonder if mine would even be serious enough to need to go on disability. I want to be a librarian. As long as I don't end up working at a school I think I could be okay. I'd also need an understanding boss, but other than that, I think I'd be able to handle it.

Everything's always so quiet and calm in libraries.
