Army Spouse Looking for Help

Hi everyone,

My name is Janice and I'm a newbie to the group . My husband was diagnosed with PTSD a few months ago after 3 stays on the 5th floor at the base hospital. With medications and therapy he seems to be doing better... however he still has moments where he slips into that mode. I'm frustrated because he has no memory of the first three incidences, which I guess wouldn't bother me so much had he not have tried to harm himself. Lucky for me his friends were around and were able to subdue him before he could hurt himself, however it tore me up inside to watch him like that... because he was not my husband... he was a totally diffrent person and I had no clue how to help him.
I guess right now I'm just looking for others who understand what it is I'm going through because I know I'm not the only one... though sometimes the Army tends to make you feel that way.
Well that's kind of my situation in a nut shell. I look forward to meeting and talking with you all

Welcome to the forum Janice, lovely to have you. We have a large and fairly active carers section and a very useful information section as well, as I hope you have already discovered. Additionally you are most welcome to ask questions of the PTSD sufferers themselves, as a carer myself I have found their answers most helpful. I am glad your husband is doing better. I am not certain how common it is, however my daughter has had "blackouts" which sound similar to what you describe. It is most frightening. And as a military wife myself, I do agree the military is still largely in denial about PTSD. Here in Canada there is still a stigma attached to the disorder, and many soldiers simply will not seek help for that reason. I am glad to know at least your husband has obtained help. In any event, welcome, feel free to post and ask questions as much as you like. I look forward to speaking with you more.
