Ask a foreigner

For people in the US. Do Americans travel within the States much? Visit each state once?

I do ?. I’ve been to 30 states out of the 50, but we want to go to all 50 as a bucket list thing. We also want to see all the National Parks. I’d love to travel abroad too, but road tripping is a little more doable for us. The US is so big you can get just about every climate you’d want to visit here. Tropical, deserts, prairies, heavily forested, mountains, you name it.

Don't you guys fly places? I've flown to England for a day trip n mainland Europe for a weekend. I imagine travelling between states can't be much different from travelling from UK to mainland Europe? Or is it? I dunno ?
It is cheaper to fly to europe than to fly from the west coast to much of the midwest  Sadly (snort) my we found that out when my mother inlay wanted us to visit her. Such a tragedy  The other issue with flying is all the hoops you have to jump thru -- can/can't check bags can/can't pick seats, can/cant keep shoes on to go thru security, blah blah. Every airline has different rules so it can be a huge pain in the ass.

One thing that surprises my European friends is how big the US is geographically. Germany is the size of Oregon - which is only a mid size state. To get from Oregon to New York is about a 40 hour drive. A lot of retired people buy motorhomes and "snow bird" which is moving from the north to the south and back again to live in the milder weather seasons. So they spend half the year in Montana and the other half in Arizona --- or go back and forth from New York to Florida
Ya - that's the life!

Holy crap! If I wanted to fly to Florida it would cost me a minimum of $500. To California, $1000.
Um. I got flights from Glasgow to new York for £400 ? you guys price shit weird
Gas is a lot cheaper here. Right now with prices down it cost me $35 to fill up my truck. That will get me 420 miles or so before needing more fuel.
Yeah. So.. it's still cheaper to fly for us... Glasgow to London is 400 odd miles.. so twenty return is cheaper than $35 dollars each way..
