Thanks. I've had friends question what I've done to make them hate me so much. Family history says my mothers mother pretty much treated her like she didn't exist. Wouldn't touch her, hug her etc.

Abuse runs in my family. I can only hope that it stops with me. My kids love me and aren't guilted into doing so as my brother and I were.

A caller rang in saying that there is one rule that is unforgivable by god -- to blaspheme the holy spirit.

They asked the caller what that means, and he said he didn't know -- that's the reason that he lives in fear.

They asked the caller if he has tried asking god. The man said no. And that he thinks that if people are hearing god talk to them, they're mentally ill. (which was highly amusing in itself)

And then Matt presented an argument about how cruel it is that god would declare a rule exists, declare the punishment for not failing to follow that rule, but not be willing to explicitly tell the people that it has created, with brains that think for themself, what exactly that rule is.


Yep. No competition there on Worst Communicator front, really.


Also, the caller following that one rang into the show to give them an update that since ringing into the show 6 months ago, she has become an atheist. And she sounds so freaking happy about it. And I got all teared up :laugh:

There's a whole strain of fundamentalist thought dedicated to the question of why God is silent. He was constantly and thoroughly communicative in the lives of the Israelites, so why is he so quiet now?

Of course, no one's been able to come up with a good reason yet. The best they've been able to do is "He's punishing us." Sad.

It's a scorcher today, and for those of you not familiar with the South Pacific sun, the hole in the ozone above us makes it especially strong.

It makes me so angry... how oppressive and brainwashing these fairy tales are that someone would feel they have to wear that black covering when they leave the house on a day like this.

Think of it differently too... Some places, that attire is a good way of telling people off and be stared at, but not bothered.

Here in the USA, Pentecostal churches are not following the rules, are still having huge gatherings, and are actively insulting anyone who is actually trying to socially distance or isolate themselves.

Here on the forums, there's sure been some weird God talk. This is a stressful time, and everyone is handling it their own ways, but ... some of it is just weird.

I did have a little 'tehe' to myself when our PM first banned all non-essential gatherings of >500 and then >100 people, that specifically included religious gatherings.

Honestly, I don't understand how any person believing in an omnipotent deity can look around at the current calamity (beyond that that exists in non-pandemic times) and think that their deity is anything other than cruel/evil or lazy.
