General Books For Survivors

I strongly suspect my wife to be suffering from PTSD and I have told her of what I suspected. It has been going on for many years. She has refused to see a therapist about it. The other day we were in the book store and she asked if there was any PTSD books. They didn't have any. Does anyone recommend a book that she could read? I believe her PTSD comes from being raised in a dsyfunctional and a sexual assault as a teenage. I have read PTSD for dummies, but wondering if there was something not quite as wide ranging.

I recommend In An Unspoken Voice also by Peter Levine and The Body Remembers by Rothschild. These helped me tremendously. Bless you for your support.

I have also read "The Body Remembers" by Rothschild, and recommend it.
I picked up "The Trauma Toolkit" by Susan Pease last night. I believe it's aimed at the PTSD suffering audience. I'll post a review.

I'm also a fan of Francine Shapiro's books EMDR and Getting Past Your Past. EMDR is one of the most effective therapies for PTSD and her books are very accessible.

I was also glad I read Gabor Mate's In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts. It can be a tough book to read, as the author is a doctor who works with skid row addicts. He talks about brain chemistry, which is quite interesting to me, and the connection between surviving trauma and addiction.
