So,

I need to find a hobby. But nothing seems to really interest me. so just curious what everyone else does for a hobby, how did you get into it, is it something you really like or do you have to force yourself to do it daily/weekly/monthly.

Did you have to force yourself into it to start with and it got easier? Etc.

I don't have any major hobbies, but I have a list of things to do when I am bored, as for me boredom leads to high levels of stress really quickly. This includes gardening, reading, yoga, sitting as quietly as I can listening to music, walking on the beach, and visiting this site (which has been amazingly helpful). I've got very limited funds so the list is pretty short and simple, but I can always manage one or the other of the activities to occupy myself.

Before the depression took over, I was heavily into Genealogy, art, writing, gardening, and reading books. I didn't have to force myself. Now I would have to.

Lately, I spend most of my time reading articles throughout the internet, this forum, and some FB. I tend to get really stuck on one thing for a certain amount of time, over do it, and then drop it.

This is interesting.

I want to do something BUT generally I just can't be ar*ed any more.

H and I are going to a new hobby and craft store next Friday. Hopefully I will see something that I may enjoy. I used to knit but injuries to my shoulder now prevent this.

I love making bread from scratch. Kneading the dough is really calming for me. I started walking in the park near me as well. It's mostly woods and is usually quiet and peaceful when there aren't a lot of people around.

I love to scrapbook

I have a friend like this too. I tried it once, a book for my husbands 40th, and I still haven't finished it! That was 7 years ago. I know, unbelievable. I think that is really cool how you have various books for different subjects in your life. I wish I had your tenacity. Maybe my one scrapbook attempt would be finished.

I read and I bake. Baking is good for my soul but NOT so good for my hips. I really love it though and am very good at giving what I cook away so I don't eat it. There are only a few things that call to me....red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting is my favorite and I eat way to much of it when I do bake it.

I write. Anything and everything, whether it's talking about my feelings or making a story or poem. It feels like a good emotional release. Also(not a hobby) but I clean when I feel the need to be doing something with my hands. It's productive and I end up feeling like I've accomplished something. I used to woodcarve as well, that was definitely fun. You could try going to different hobby shops like I think someone above suggested, and look around to see what catches your eye.

I have always found that crocheting helps me. I had never realized how much, till I stopped and found out that I miss the quietness it creates in my mind. I almost seem to forget everything for a few minutes. I like the fact that I don't have to make anything special. I just work. Even if all I end up with is a square potholder or washcloth. It is also somthing that is easy to put down and pick up later. Even weeks have gone by, but my project was there waiting for me. In the end, I end up with somthing pretty for myself or somtimes to just give to somone who is nice to me. I can also take it with me to other peoples houses, so if I'm stressed, then I have an "out" to help me feel better.

Katz, I use to crochet. I forgot how comforting that was. i just realized that was about 30 years ago! :wideeyed: I'm usually couch ridden. I think that might be a good idea to try again.
