Breaks In Therapy

Hi.

So, I'm uninsured and only have access to therapy at my university's counseling center. For the past 3 semesters, I have seen this one T. He's great, and we get along well. However, he only works during the regular academic year, so he is off until Sept 5th or whatever date school starts up again. Currently, I am in group therapy which is unrelated to trauma.

I had been trying to see a different T, but I'm rather tired of looking when I can't seem to find a good fit. There was one 1.5 hours away that I really liked, but he was too concerned about the commute to accept me as a client. It appears that I will continue to go untreated until September.

So do any of you have advice for me as I have this long break? What do you do when you have breaks in your therapy? Any pointers that I can take to heart?

Thanks,

Noah

Hi Noah,

I've also just started a long break from therapy. My last session was on friday and during this my T said that I should take this break as a time to process and reflect on everything so far. To think about what I have learnt about myself and to decide which direction I want to go next.

I know at the time I was thinking what the hell is he talking about, I haven't learnt anything that I didn't already know! But maybe I have and I just don't realise it yet, which is the whole point of a break I suppose.

This is my first break, so I don't have any helpful suggestions for you, but i've decided to take one day at a time and try not to let my panic over take me because I don't have my T as a crutch to lean on.

The good thing about this forum is that there is are lots of peolpe to talk to, so you are never on your own.
