I have started a new thread in 'Childhood' which I hope will filter the conversation in the direction I intended. Thank you @anthony for that suggestion.
I will not be participating further in this thread.
@Lucycat I completely understand your stance and the confusion due to the abuse you encountered related to this. But my comment was not in response to your post, it was moreso in response to an explicit comment comparing nursing an infant to a sexual act. Does this make sense?
Again I'm really sorry this is a trigger for you. Just being alone with my son is a trigger for me at times or changing his nappy. I can't even enjoy this pregnancy as I worry how I'll relate to baby no.2. And that sounds super selfish and adds more guilt to me as I realise the people out there who crave a child of their own.
@Lucycat I just wanted to clarify that my comments here weren't directed at you. Nor did I take offence to what you said. My words were directed at some of the other replies. I was upset because of negative things I've read or heard about breastfeeding lately. After reading some comments here I felt defensive. I wanted to share my story and opinions in the hope of enlightening people. I'm tired of hearing that breastfeeding is something shameful that should be "covered up" and hidden from the world. But it is now obvious that you did not intend to start a moral debate about public breastfeeding. I think we all missed your point completely.
Your post has helped me to see things from a different perspective. I always understood that the act of breastfeeding can be triggering but I never new that observing an infant feeding could also be a trigger. From now on I will be open minded on this topic.
