Can't See How To Move Forwards

I've been with mine for well over 2 years now - she's always been clear it happens at my pace in my way, which has actually enabled me to tackle stuff because I don't feel forced or pushed. The silence sounds punishing, which may be re enacting old abuse dynamics - that's so not the way to move forward.

I hope it goes ok tomorrow - remember it's your therapy, not his.

Trust is earned, not given.

Is there some single item that you could tell your T that typically gets a bad reaction from others. I'm thinking something trivial like a bad habit of biting toenails.

Then before the session take that item and think off all the negative reactions and what reaction you want from your T. Then tell your T and watch their reaction.

If your Ts reaction is good, next session say something else. If it's bad, discuss it.

Just thoughts.

- I think perhaps the issue is that I can't stand being vulnerable in front of anyone but how do you get past that?

Initially? Head on? Drugs or anger (also sex, but that's not exactly an in office thing. At least we hope not! Bit o'breech of ethics there. For true, tho, the only time I've ever really been comfortable talking about dark shit with anyone is skin to skin).

After that? Flanking the sonnuvabitch, coming at things from the side instead of head on, so I'm talking about shit before I really realize I'm talking about it. Usually this means someone else is hurting and something I've got in my head might help. Helps me learn to talk about things, far more than anything I might say helps them, I'm sure.

<grin> & yeah. Pride & laughter. Finding the pieces there? Gives me a better grip than just about anything.
