CBT and dysregulation

Twice now i have been very dysregulated in the last two weeks by kicking off on people by text or email when i have been scared of something happening which there is no evidence it has happened or is going to happen, its just a situation I have created out of nothing. I have had 3 or 4 sessions of cbt and it seems to be making the situation worse before it gets better. Does anyone else have this experience when they started CBT or therapy

Yep.

All trauma therapy has that effect, with PTSD.

Which is a big part of why “stabilization”, & stress management (See the PTSD Cup, if you haven’t already), & coping mechanisms/methods/tools are usually worked on -often for significant periods of time- before the actual trauma therapy & trauma processing begin. There will always be an uptick in symptoms, how severe an uptick, and how much that affects your life? Is mostly dependent on the prep-work to make sure you & your life can handle the body blows without too much fallout.

Thankyou @Friday . I ended up having a nightmare that wasn't heart racing scary more hopeless scary if that makes sense, like my life was about to be over. Then I started kicking off on someone by email . I will definitely be sharing it with my cbt worker

another yup. i analogize it to the discomfort to be expected after ripping a dirty, duct tape bandage from a long and deeply infected wound. cleansing alone is a booger bear.

however. . . in my case, the gain was/is well worth the pain. serenity rocks.

healing happens. i hope it happens to you.

LMFAO 🤣… I usually compare it to the difference between going to the doctor when you’re sick & feeling almost immediately better with advice & antibiotics (regular therapy); versus reconstructive surgery & physical therapy to fix an old break healed badly (I swear to every power that be; physios are SADISTS, who have decided to use their powers for good; no one else is that happy -or precise- about how much pain you can reeeeeeally endure). Where you limp in, and come out in a wheel chair, then crutches, then a cane, then your own 2 feet but back to limping worse than you came in last year, then …finally… walking better than you came in at, and it’s still another year of pain before you’re done & at your best, all running and cartwheels and shit.

I like yours better. 😎

Same durn thing, but the duct tape is just so damn true.
