When I approached my supervisor last year to ask if he would be my supervisor for my postgraduate studies, he said yes, and then asked if I was planning on doing a summer scholarship.
I said that I had wanted to, but that I had missed the deadline for submitting my application to our Institute (the institute funds only about 8 scholarships across all of the sciences).
To which, my supervisor replied: "well I've got external funding, so I would be happy to fund your summer studentship myself."
I was so shocked and humbled and happy and couldn't believe that someone would value me that much that they would go out of their way to do something that they -really- weren't obliged to do.
I accepted his offer.
It was $3000NZD (tax free) for 5 weeks. And a great experience.
I wasn't allowed to celebrate it, though.
I got in a lot of trouble from my ex for accepting supervisor's offer.
So f*ck you, ex, I'mma celebrate it now.
