Chemical Imbalance, Medication When You Dont Do Drugs?

Hi Guys. I'm throwing this out there.

PTSD only came up about a week ago, and in trying to find out what it is, I found this forum. Blown away. This is what I have been going through but didnt put all the pieces together in one basket, so finding this place has been a godsend BUT a couple of things are really worrying me.

I dont (as in do not) use drugs to 'fix' things. And when I read that this thing is actually a permanent brain damage type thing, first tears and panic, next determination not to go down that path. And next, learning about the chemical change in the brain which would usually mean DRUGS.

Does this always have to be corrected with drugs? Is there some way to rebalance the brain and get that overdose of adrenalin and the fight and flight turned 'off' without use of drugs?

Like maybe yoga or tai chi, or accupressure or something where the physical body engages in the rebalancing? ie fix it not mask it with drugs and when mask is removed problem remains.

This is freaking me right out that I might be 'forced' into being on drugs because of the diagnosis and my own ability to make my own decisions being removed from me.

Hi mods. I dont know how to do this any other way. But 40 views, no responses and after I wrote this I found some information in your WIKI section that gave me some resources.

Could someone please delete this thread? thanks

Hi there......

Meds or not is a personal decision. I have been on and off and work better off. However I use them in a severe relapse or the like.

If you have a shrink that respects you then you are in control. It's scary because there are many reports out now about the ineffectiveness of the meds, even in the Wall Street Journal and other non-sensational journals. Yet there are Dr's who REFUSE to see that side and will not respect your choice.

And of course, we can not all be in a position to find a good T or Shrink.

I hope you find one because it is key!

This is not a bad thread. Why delete it?

Although , they claim it does , drugs at most would give very little relief to ptsd . Drugs called anti depresants and anipsychotics , and others like propanolol (deranlin ).

Although they claim it does not the drugs named benzodiazapines can give 90% relief
to ptsd.
The problem is benzodiazapines work only for 4 hours so if you want to live on them you will need to take them at least 4 times a day and maybe 5 . They are highly addictive , and will cause physical addiction , your dose will get higher and higher so in a matter of 1 or two years their effectiveness will be 0.

So for there are not good drugs for ptsd , as I know, there are psychological therapies they are not very effective in my point of view but some tell they helped them .
like
cbt
prolong exposure therapy
and emdr

If you really have ptsd you need to push the fuking psychiatrist to search for real solution and not to mumble with ssri and pseudo science like EFT.

Psychiatry is standing in the same place for 20 years . Strange but true .

I did. But I was leaving. And having run several forums myself, and there having been no discussion at that point, it was a dead thread. Even if taken off the boards it can be retained by admin under records/copyright. It just becomes hidden to the general public and therefore less clutter for people here AND (as stated) after I asked the question I then found the info I needed already posted here under the wiki section. So it was redundant.

Now it has some discussion...its a thread. Anyway thats why I asked to have it cleared off the boards. Sorry if my request was offensive to you.

Its a personal choice to be on medication. Some people's PTSD is mild and using other method's is alright for them ( things like exercise is great for depression) . But what about server PTSD or the other disorde'sr that might be in tangled in it? BPD or BP?

Do what is best for yourself and keep in mind others many have to live with you.

Peace :)

So are you saying the drugs are a way of pacifying a person so they are easier for others to manage?

And I might be wrong but from what I have been reading on wiki here and the print out (forgot what it was called) PTSD is an actual THING that causes those psychological changes, which appears to be why so often misdiagnosed. People see the symptoms (which also belong to other 'psychological' conditions such as depression etc) whereas with PTSD, the actual brain itself.....broke.

The broken brain is what is causing those other things to miscompute, give false readings and not retain information which would usually be there in reactions and decision making. And with that going on...you bet things are going to go haywire.

Now I actually understand the root cause of the other stuff, I am being more tolerant, and seeing it as a need for relearning those parts blown off my grey matter, and also have an expectation others see it the same. Its an 'injury' and if you'd understand a person in a wheelchair is going to struggle with things they can do easily, apply that same level of understanding to my own injury thanks.

It seems (and I might be wrong) that because people cant SEE a cast on the arm,or a wheelchair, to indicate visually the injury exists, that their own expectations someone do, be and act....as a whole uninjured person would......is 3/4 of the problem.

Remove that skewed perception, and then the expectations and reactions line up. Therefore removing a LOT of pressure from the already injured person, who already has enough to struggle with.

Drugs make it easier for them? What about the person who is injured? Dont they count? Looks like an easy cop out to me.

What I meant was that its okay for you to try anything you want to help with your PTSD, anything you want. But if you live with children, you would want to be more careful with your choices.

How about helping Mom understand what happened to her, so they can all laugh when Mom screws up instead of letting the frustration build to breaking point? Do you think that would be a good strategy in that situation? Or do you think some people wouldnt be able to comprehend the physical injury and deal with it at that level and might still get so hyped they blow a fuse?
