Ecclesiastes 7:8-10

8 Better is the end of a thing than its beginning.

The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. 9 Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. 10 Don’t say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not ask wisely about this.

So many times I have heard people talk about "The Good Old Days." People say things like "They don't make them like they used to." And I have said these things too! We all are human, and I guess it is common to look back on the past and yearn for the way things used to be. Yet, clearly, Solomon, who was said to be the wisest man in the world, begs to differ. I think that is interesting. It surely is food for thought!

This sinus infection could be going into my lungs, not sure. I am on 12 days of high dose antibiotics. Last time I had one of these infections, it became pleurisy (a type of lung infection). It seems like it may be going into my lungs now, not sure. A friend told me my cough sounded as if it is. I am scared. Don't want to end up in the Hospital again. Please pray for me. I'd appreciate it.

13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

About a year ago, I had been sick all winter and the ladies of my church laid hands on me and prayed over me. The pastor lead the prayers and even anointed my head with oil. I have not been sick again until now. I guess I need to ask them to do that again, but in the meantime, your prayers will be greatly appreciated!

Ephesians 1:3-10 World English Bible (Free to use, not copyrighted)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without defect before him in love, 5 having predestined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire, 6 to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he freely gave us favor in the Beloved, 7 in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him 10 to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth, in him.

14 God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of sky to give light on the earth;" and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of sky to give light to the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good.

Well, it looks like the "lesser light" which will be totally dark next Monday, will for a very short time "rule the day." But then again, since it will be dark outside then, will it actually be "day" at the time of the eclipse? Also, isn't it kind of interesting that God created our moon so that it can cover the sun in such a way once every 100 years or so, (in any one given place) like this? Eclipses are certainly something magnificent and awesome, don't you think?

From Chapter 1, First John
"1 Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn't listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error."

If God takes your anxiety away when you ask, why does it return?
In an "urban myth" about Martin Luther (not King, Jr., but the German one a few centuries earlier), Satan appeared at the foot of Marty's bed late one night. Marty sat up, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Oh, it's you" and went back to sleep. While my anxiety continues to show up rather frequently, I'm learning to, for lack of better words, "not panic about my anxiety." I've developed my toolkit of coping/escape strategies so that when anxiety appears, I think, "Ach, Lord, here we go again. Please let me know if there's an even better way to process this; until then, I'm gonna (fill in the blank for coping exercise.)" I'm coming to think that if my anxiety is like the Apostle Paul's "thorn in the flesh," I must be in pretty good company.

My anxiety has not been too bad lately. I suppose it comes on once in awhile, but for the most part, it is an emotion I have put behind me. There is a Bible verse about it actually, which helps me:

"6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

Here's Ephesians 4:26 from the WORLD ENGLISH BIBLE, a non copyrighted version of the Scriptures that is OK to copy and share online from Wikipedia:

"26 "Be angry, and don't sin." Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 neither give place to the devil."

1 JOHN 4:7

"7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. 8 He who doesn't love doesn't know God, for God is love."
