It's so difficult. The things he did, I know I made excuses due to the PTSD but at the end of the day, if someone is abusive towards you it will eventually take its toll and make you ill.
I stayed strong for so long but it has got to the point, even after splitting, that whatever I do is wrong. I have given up. It is very sad as when you care about someone you just want to help but at the end of the day they have to want to help themselves.
Sadly I think my ex is still very far from really accepting just how bad his ptsd and subsequent behaviour is and that's what worried me. I saw no light at the end if the tunnel.
I know people can change but it takes a lot of work and starts with awareness. If there's no awareness (in the case if my ex) then there will be no improvement.
Frustrating but that's the situation!
