I Completed A Highly Challenging Assessment Task, some people went part time to avoid doing it and some people left the course - and I had empathy for their position. But I got through and I did a reasonable and pretty good job on it as well. I did a bit of procrastination and I went off task a lot but I kept bringing myself back to the assessment item.

It seems after going ever so slowly for about three decades, desperately trying to heal I am getting cumulative achievements now.

It was pretty hard going - so I did Pros and Cons and I did Radical Acceptance and I went up a few points in Distress Tolerance overall.

It is almost as though my brain is growing new places for me to go on these new paths and really it is amazing.

I did it! I did it! And I can actually have a few second here and there acknowledging myself that I did well and it was an achievement. That is a big shift for me! There is a tiny little bit of self validation of myself from me - I had thought for some decades that it would never come - but it has arrived.

Okay now for the next thing...

You are, in fact, growing new brain cells, @Ms Spock! There's a great book, Mindsight, that explains a lot about how our experiences actually change the structure of our brain. I often get depressed the more I learn about just how f*cked up early CSA can make you, and the impact on a child's developing brain, but this book talks about how *despite* horrible circumstances and experiences, *adults* can literally change the structure of their brain for the better by the way in which we deal with challenges, and by certain mindfulness and other practices. The book is written for the layperson, but the field is called Interpersonal Neurobiology. i think I've just convinced myself to read it again ...

I have read a bit on neuroplasticity @Lola Nocheprieta and I am very aware that I am growing new neural pathways each and every day! (I am exhausted some days. It is not work of the fainthearted!) I will come back and read that book after this round of assessment is completed! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me - it is much appreciated!

CSA = Child Sexual Assault? We try not to use acronyms on the forum in a bid to be inclusive of other folks who speak English as a Second Language or a third or fourth language or indeed live in another part of the world - the same acronyms mean different things in various countries. Have a look at this CSA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I got a High Distinction for the Highly Challenging Assessment piece - so that is good news. Not as high as I would have liked but hey it is a High Distinction!

It sure ain't! I can't believe how humbling the last year has been, after literally decades of hard work, then 10-15 years of the PTSD and depression being in remission. I'm getting ready to roll up my sleeves and do some prolonged exposure (PE) work. i'm terrified, but I take solace and inspiration from people like you and other members of MyPTSD.

Btw, what is the Highly Challenging Assessment? I've never heard of it. It sounds like we have many of the same interests (eg, neuroplasticity) or at least we're familiar with the same resources (eg, Kristin Neff's guided mediations on self-compassion), so I'm curious to learn more about this.

Anyway, very proud of and inspired by you, Ms Spock, for your perseverance!

Ps, thank for the reminder re acronyms! CSA sadly = child sexual abuse. But we're stronger at the broken places!

Take good care.
