Copyright Infringement Reminder

Whitney did you read the link above and Myth #2. If you also look at some of the copyright information it says who to contact to reproduce and taking it and using it elsewhere would surely fall under that classification I would think?

Facebook's distribution privileges would be in accordance to the exception of 'signing away your rights' just as you do with posts on this forum. It also explains public domain in the link.

I actually can't paste extracts of the article as it has strict reproduction rights outlined on the bottom of the page in that you had to copy the entire document and acknowledge the source including contact details (which would be promotion on this site).

As this sites legal policy clearly states, if you do something illegal, this site may be forced to provide any private identifiable data to the party involved, for legal action against you. Our legal policy is there for good reason, and members are accountable for what they post online. Images are no different to text, only that text has a percentage law applied based on what country you live.

That rule includes the repeating of say, a news article, or article on a website. You can reproduce x percentage without breaking copyright. If you copy the entire thing, you risk breaching the other sites copyright. It's no different if I found someone reproducing content from this website upon their website, that breached the 10% rule (average). Their host would get a DMCA for breaching PTSD Forums copyright.

PTSD Forum and its managements, staff, subsidiaries and so forth, are not responsible for copyright infringement by members, providing PTSD Forum removes said content upon being notified, and such copyright has been legally cited. Members can face thousands in fines via civil proceedings, regardless the country you reside, for breaching copyright by reproducing content on any website.

Google have a waiver for this specifically, being a search engine. Due to the complexity involved in search data, they instead provide all users methods to "opt out" of having their content indexed, by both Google search and Google images, and all other search data. There are specific laws allowing Google to provide such content for search purposes, to view and read, to be guided to the website. The moment you take an image though, then reproduce it, publish it, etc, you risk breaching a persons copyright.

Available online is not FREE to do as you wish with it, when it comes to copyright.

Anthony, Yes and thanks. This should be very easy to understand, for everyone. The link Nicolette posted has good information, however the author implies that unless a picture is registered any suit would be difficult.

He is an attorney and gets paid win or loose. I also checked the policy on the Cartoonstock who has "free" items listed in a seperate category. One must register for the free items and use in accordance with their rules. One cannot download the copywrite items w/o buying a use license.

Best practice for all of us is to read and understand the rules. Which are in all of our best interest. The rules in cyberspace change by the hour.

I generally search using free images, boats or whatever, and do find them in sites that license and sell. It is our responsibility as members to to watch ourselves.

I have been searching fo a motivational poster generator free to use as well. Think we may need to learn imagery with words.

I found this which might be interesting to read (I take no responsibility for accuracy).

Nicolette, Yes I read this. The sad thing is he also implies things that some brains may not easily clarify. No matter where a person is from I think we need to be looking at international and internet legalities.

We have a member that Anthony was discussing with in the help desk. She, I believe is a internet attorney. I will see If I can find the post. Maybe she has some input. Hugs Whitney

Anthony,

I want to delete some of my picture posts, particularly in the picture threads and the joke threads. I am afraid I have made this mistake and if I have, then I would like a chance to put it right. I would be happy to delete pics for other members who would also like this opportunity, if you would allow us that privilege. Regardless of whether an attorney can make it stick, it causes me stress to think I may be responsible for withholding monetary compensation for someone's intellectual property.

Thank you for considering it,
Muz

Yes I get your point there, but sometimes when you Google for a certain image a drop down menu gives you the option for free images.

Maybe I got it wrong in doing it that way. Maybe it should be done as in "Flower images free download".
