Cymbalta Switched To Generic?

Hi ladies and gents,

I came across this thread in search of answers. I have been on cymbalta for a couple months now for anxiety and I have just recently picked up a script and chose to go for the generic brands as I was advised they were the same and cost a lot less.

Since taking the generic brand of cymbalta, I have been having severe acid reflux and heartburn. It's made worse by eating bread and weetbix as well as consuming coffee, which was never an issue before.

It's not just the heartburn and acid reflux but also experiencing headaches as well as just general overall feeling sh**. The only way I can describe the feeling is that of withrawl; where the only thing which has changed is the medication brand (or lack there of)

Since reading the experiences others have had with generic, I now think the generic isn't the same and that it's causing all this trouble.

Very likely. Acid reflux, I know, is an issue with certain fillers that are commonly used in psych meds (even brand ones, sometimes). Is it an option for you to switch back, and see if the problems go away?

It is an option to swap back to the name brand variety. To be honest, I'm going to take these generics in and just get a new script. Have only had the generic for a week and they make me feel rotten already.

When starting on cymbalta originally; the reflux, eye twitches, vertigo and nausea were the symptoms. The generic, although not all symptoms have been experienced; have come to surface. (Have eye twitches as I type) Also, the feeling of backtracking into how I was before being on any medication.

Cymbalta overall has been a godsend. It doesn't make me feel foggy like lexapro did, nor is my memory effected like it was on dothep. It helps me sleep, gives me the get up and go which got up and went, it has made me feel normal again. As a plus, it has helped cut down on coffee (which was required to stay awake or give the perk to do everyday tasks) but along with setting routines, seeing a therapist once a month, changing (and sticking to) a lacto-ovo vegetarian lactose and gluten free lifestyle has improved my quality of life dramatically. (Still need to work on water consumption though)

I've seen many bad reviews for this medication due to the side effects as well as the lack of patience people have had to wait out the symptoms which do subside. But like everything, everyone has different reactions.

Sorry for carrying on

Hi Anna,

I would want to verify your Reporting with Bloomberg news & discuss off line my experience.

Very very serious, devastating harm and the consequences.

I reported to the FDA. (Med watch).

When I was contacted by the specific manufacturer, I was truly not able to respond. It took an extended period of time before discerning the cause!

Meantime, I had each of these debilitating medical & mental health events looked into for a root cause. Each had other possible causes ruled out. No answers or hope; I had NOT been functional for a long time!! Finally, I searched for people that were therapeutic & felt good on the brand Cymbalta Reporting they were not well on the generic.

FINALLY, I found a yahoo group. I cried so hard, for a much better reason, I wasn't alone!! We were all sure we had lost our minds, our health, & couldn't find answers. So hopeless. Meantime I had done a look into what was happening behind the scenes with drug safety testing when patents ended and multiple companies were approved to produce a generic version.

I am a medical professional, & a patient. I was looking for how this had been permitted if in fact testing was in place, & performed for generics as well. I already knew they had a greater dose variability than brands. Depending on the type of drug, what it is for, relates to how much of a variability is considered safe.

Not everyone knew how to go through the painful process to have the brand covered. DAW and prior authorizations for insurance to "ALLOW" with a higher co-pay had to have the measurable documentation submitted by the provider to show a patient had failed on the generic. As we all know, even with education that mental illnesses & treatments are as serious and as much a physiological disease as heart disease & cancer.

Unbeknownst to many patients and their loved ones, much of your support suffers.

Families, marriages, & relationships, people that Dont understand what could be wrong. The patient, may not be able when suffering from a bad drug, to look for how to report it! How to get their brand back before worst outcomes. I have asked professionals established in the fields of Psychiatry & therapy. They have a wealth of experience, top educations and educators, they are still in practice & in touch with clients.

I sought greater insight. What do you see when patient's suffer because they are NOT therapeutic on a form of their medication that works for them?

I would love to discuss what I learned, that I need to get help now. I'm still dealing with serious adverse outcomes and treatment required to deal with the fallout.

I couldn't navigate. Once all was documented & authorized to go back on Cymbalta brand DAW. I was keenly aware as I became therapeutic, that this was the answer! I was able to experience the joy of everyday things! I don't know who I had been, but this was me emerging, doing & being me again!

This is so out of control and health care is at a critical crossroads. This issue and the devastating results are not getting any better. More medical plans & pharmacy coverage are dropping medications. Not only is what we need "non-formulary," they are dropping the entire category of drug and leaving citizens in ruin, because they must have Rx___________ to live, function, prevent direct cause of death, or because life isn't even do-able, quality, functional, productive. We have to be safe, sensitive to costs, and make a radical change that puts the best treatment for any individual patient back in the hands of the provider & the patient!

Decisions and privacy, HIPAA, based on history, comorbidities, other medications and what is NOT contraindicated. Our health care is dictated by wealthy insurance companies and pharmaceuticals & manufacturers. When they cut corners, it's not a crappy appliance that should work longer, it's your life and your health! These should be ethically based, patient centered, provider respected practices. Supported by true science, research, studies, safety testing, NOT performed by those who make profits if their drug is approved! Making enormous excessive profits on what we "need" to treat diseases & support health & well being.

This is not to be copied or used in print without a private interview and my approval on final article and how it portrays my events as well as my professional insights, & supplied data and experience.

Sincerely,

my user name and self represented in this discussion.

I have just changed a couple of months ago from cymbalta to duloxetine. Now my irregular heart beat, dizziness, tiredness and depression have returned. I will participate with you for the purpose of informing others if you need volunteers.

I started out on 60 mg of generic Cymbalta and have done pretty well on it, but now I wonder if I am missing the benefits of being on the name brand.....I want the best of the best, If I can get it.;)

I have had some troubles, but I seem to respond better to even the generic than I did to other drugs of it's class. I was on Celexa before this and it did not work as well as the Duloxetine (Cymbalta).

Sometimes though, my insurance wants them to dispense the generic equivalent of the name brand most of the time because it is cheaper, but I don't like that so much and wonder if I became the squeaky wheel if I might get the name brand.:O_o::tdown::unsure:

I was just informed my Cymbalta will not be covered by express scripts anymore. I will have to pay full price to continue with cymbalta, which I can't afford. I have tried generic for 6 weeks and it didn't work as well as the Cymbalta and my doctor said to dispense as written. I am scared as hell since I have been on Cymbalta since 2006, 60mgs a day. I am thinking buying from Canada or Mexico. Generics don't work for
me.
