My poor husband has been suffering since last Friday, and has had to take strong pain killers just to be able to move about easier.

He hurt it a few years ago and had to have an emergency operation in it, with no guarantee he would be able to walk afterwards.

He did go to the the doctors Friday afternoon, as it was already booked because it was getting worse again, She said she would refer him for Physio.

But now he is saying stuff the middle man, I want to go direct to the specialist, as was recommended by another GP before she retired. So it is back tomorrow morning to see someone else, insisting on a referral back to the specialist.

In the mean time, keep taking the strong pain killers which knock him out, but at least he is not in pain.

When it is a choice between being in pain and hardly being able to move, and being doped up, he is choosing the doped up way for now.

A few years ago I went through horrible back pain. It was a herniated disc. I was disabled for over a year. I don't know what your husband's problem is with his back, but be careful about surgery. i researched it and sometimes the surgeries can cause more problems than fix.

Whatever happens I wish you and hubby the best. I have a lot of pain in my life but when it settles in the back it is awful. Wishing hubby gets better soon!!!

He had emergency surgery on it about 6 years ago AngelaMarie, had a Micro-Diskectomy. He had no choice with that, as was unable to walk at all. Plus he was warned of the possibility of not being able to walk again.

He is not looking at surgery this time, just wants to know what is going on, before they go the Physio route.

He is in a lot of pain now, so something has to be done, before it gets as bad as it did before.

So far though his head is not too off of level with it.

All I can say Amethist is I hope it gets better quick! I will keep you and him in my thoughts. Sorry if I was off base. I just want the best for both of you!

Has he tried the heat pads you can get in home and bargain and similar places?

They are very good, more practical than a hotwater bottle and flat enough to lie on plus they stick to your shirt and so are completely discreet and fully portable.

Mind you in weather like this I have been known to wear one just because I'm a right wimp.....

Oh poor Husband! Mine has troubles too - he was temporarily paralised (sorry - can't spell this morning!!!) when in the Army and it caused some damage that has caused him pain on and off ever since. We are lucky to have the most fabulous Pharmacist in our local Boots - he recommended a Tens Machine. He went through everything with Husband - how to use it, where to put the pads, what settings to put it on, which bits of the instructions to believe and which bits to ignore!!! But being a tight wad, Husband decided not to buy it and to live in pain instead... :x3: Could be worth a try - perhaps he could ask the Dr if it would be suitable for that type of pain. Good luck x

Amethist,

I hope your H gets some relief very soon. Probably wise to choose rest until he can be seen and they know exactly what is going on.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both. It is hard to care for someone who is incapacitated. Also it reminds me to thank all of those who are caring for me daily until I can get my back repaired.

Deb

Thanks all.

He did see the Doc this morning ans reassured him the Physio was more like a triage to the specialist. If they feel he needs to be seen, they will send him asap, plus he should be seen within a month, and it is not for from where we live.

She also suggested he take 1 co-codamol with 30mg of codeine in it and one plain paracetamol as from tomorrow. Plus keep up with the hot baths and massage, giving him some gel to use in between my oils.

Toria I was thinking of the Tens machine myself, once he has seen the physio. It would be handy for my knee too, when that gets too much.
