Why isn't the low carb good? I just watched a webinbar by a vegetarian who said Atkins is best for losing and keeping off weight, but try to use more broccoli than steak for protein. I eat a lot of low carb veggies too, I just became diabetic so I want my blood sugars low because I have had steroids again this month.

I have been a vegetarian before but main stream medical nutrition (I know you are medical so please excuse) says that nothing substitutes for fish chemically. And that the average western diet is way too low in protein. Especially when it comes to inflammation, and everyone with chronic issues like you have would have high inflammation I am guessing.

And so what I would imagine would be most helpful for both diabetes and inflammation would be a low glycemic load diet with around 3 portions of protein a day (which is not considered a high protein diet) and small good sources of carbohydrates (ie sugars as they are essentially the same thing) such as wholegrain rice and wholegrain bread. And with plenty of fish. And veg or fruit of course with low GI vegs being the best options.

Vegetables are still considered carbohydrates fundamentally; even the lower GI options. As I understand it what is best for inflammation and sugar levels is to have a protein such as fish, legumes or chicken, a small high carb portion such as rice and vegetables. With oil.

Greatly respect people choice to be vegetarian but chemically it is very hard to follow a low inflammatory diet and be vegan for example.

Only problem is its bad for health in various ways and possibly for kidneys. Changing from the steak to the broccoli also essentially changes it from a very high protein and low carb diet to a low protein diet. When I believe what is most supported is neither.

Shall be quiet now ;). Especially since I have said a whole lot when not being requested to! :oops:
 
I have pain in my back, as well as in my fingers, neck and leg joints (ankles, knees & hips).

In my case, I suspect it's hypermobility. I'm extremely flexible, to the point where I can chew my own toenails without much difficulty (probably one of the few nailbiters who bites all 20 nails!). And I'm autistic - hypermobility/hypotonia appear to be more common among autistic people.

I am hypermobile and that has definitely contributed to all this. Have continuous stream of weird injuries as well as long term chronic problems. I have some skin involvement too and a lot of the other physiological issues that are related to it.

If you are still young then I advice you to do all you can to stabilise things now so that you don't sit with damage later!

I did not know that there was a high occurrence of hypermobility in those on the autistic spectrum. Thanks for sharing.
 
I have back and neck pain too. Mine has been Dx'd as DDD. I heard several years ago that nearly everybody has this to some degree. Apparently, just being pulled from the womb starts the process. The older you get, the more your body is going to break down and show signs like this.
 
Sorry- It means Degenerative Disc Disease. I guess because everyone seems to know what CPTSD, MDD, PTSD, BPD, BP and other abbreviated DSM-V codes are on this site, then they will know what I mean when I give the basic abbreviation for what amount to arthritic spine in code. My bad.......

Yes, I have back pain. My shoulders, neck, upper back and middle back are always aching terribly. The muscles are extremely tense and tight. Even lightly touching my back causes me discomfort. Causes me headaches and fatigue. I don't know what the cause of it is. I'm guessing anxiety and emotional pain locked up inside me, manifesting physically. Maybe. I don't know.
