Day One Into The New Year And I'm Already In Trouble...

Still shaking, but I did it! I spoke to a really nice woman who was very understanding. She gave me a direct number to phone back whenever I like. I am slightly confused by what she said since I've not dealt with anything like this before so phoning back and writing everything down might be neccessary. Does anyone else ever feel slightly dazed after phonecalls or is it just because I make them seem so scary in my head? :speechless:

She took down some of my details and the address of my branch and I think she said I need to request the terms and conditions from my bank and see if they are in the right to charge interest. She said I need to go into the branch and talk to someone. And if they're incorrectly charging me, they will have to wipe the debt.

Again I'm not entirely sure how to go about all of this but at least I know I have some form of honest legal advice and not just trying to take advantage of me. I don't feel 100% confident because it's probably written in the small print somewhere that they will charge interest on overdrawn money but at least this is a start.

Thank you all for giving me advice and being so supportive!

Well done Georgia.

Can you take a friend or someone with you when you go to the bank?

It is likely that they will charge you something for going overdrawn, but if you go in and talk to someone, they will be able to explain the charges to you, and help you to sort it out.

I'm sure there are a number of different ways they could assist you. They might arrange a free overdraft for you, or work out a plan to help you pay it back is small amounts, or if you talk to someone nice, they might wave the fee's! Just remember that whoever you talk to is just a normal human being like you or I. I'm sure they will help you to sort it out, especially when you tell them how worried you are about it.

Try not to wait too long before you go in. I know it is hard. It's just the sooner you handle something like this the better off you'll be. You can do this.
