RavenSpirit,
I want to add that I have talked to my therapist about the fears of proceeding with EMDR. She told me it's like a train that stops at many stations. You have to take the ride to make it to the next station but there WILL be another station for you to pause and reflect.
When I start to close my eyes or look away she tends to say, "Keep going, you're almost there. You are safe here in my office." This helps a lot. Especially reminding me that I'm safe because the memories make me feel anything but.
Keep up with the EMDR and I will too. One day we will both look back and smile because we know we got our lives back free from PTSD.
