You all have such great suggestions and feedback! Thanks for helping me think this through. I'm running between meetings but I will write more later.

I think I have a better plan if I give this a try, to stick within what I can handle, and to have a safety plan - and a lot of support and community connection to talk things through if I give it a try. Maybe.

Is it possible to find something similar, but less intense? That way you can start working in the same field but it won't be so overwhelming all at once. I don't know what the best answer is to this because it's certainly a hard decision, but I've known a few people who have similar jobs to the one you are talking about, and they all have a certain kind of ability to detach themselves emotionally. I think that's why they are able to stay at the job for so long. Remember it's okay if it's too much for you--you are not a bad person because you can't do it, and you are not a coward. Your plan sounds good too. Just don't push yourself beyond your limit.

I am in a similar situation. Don't have any answers. I'd like to think I'm better prepared but I don't know. Went to visit the place and shut down. So much depends on your acquired skills and your ability to cope. I hope I'm up for it. Good luck to you.

Try it out and see how it goes; you might be overthinking it and making it worse for you when it could be a great opportunity.
