I am still confused about ptsd and how much serious my case is, my psychatirac said that I'll probably ok in few months but I heard that it is not treatable. I get so worried that I might not have a normal life. I don't really know if I am underestimating or overestimating my case. My fiance is a Veteran and he needs a lot of help and support which I am not sure how to offer and how to help him get better. He is suffering for three years now.
Please give some advice.

Not treatable? Very untrue. I assume based on this statement that your fiancé isn't in treatment. Tbh, you can be there to support him, but without outside treatment, he isn't likely to gain great strides in his healing.

Without knowing your situation, I can't say whether or not you'd be ok in a few months. Mods, stop me if this isn't right, but wouldn't a statement such as "you'll be ok in a few months" fall more along the lines of ASD rather than PTSD?

Not being a Debbie downer, but you'll never be the same person that you were before the trauma. BUT... you CAN heal and come to find a new "normal".

Follow up with your dr to determine a course of treatment. Therapy is beneficial to most, and it's imperative you find a trauma therapist. And please encourage your fiancé to get into treatment. IMHO you both need treatment in order for the relationship to grow. If one person is healing while the other refuses treatment, I suspect you'll grow apart.

Hugs,

I, like SOL, am un-nerved by these varing statements. I think that one of the best things that you could do is to start a trauma diary and start telling your story. With PTSD, the devil is oh so clearly in the details.

Glad you found us!

I'm glad too that I found this forum.
SOL,My fiance is on and off with his therapy. I think my doctor said that just so I don't freak out and get too worried or something like this. I hope I'll get better soon though. I will have my second appointment very soon, I still don't know how it'll go...

Bear, thanks for the advice. I'll do that.
