Did talking with therapist about suicide help?

I talked to my t about my thoughts when I'm not actively suicidal. When I get headed in that direction I just keep thinking about it more. Looking at options. She says it's more like a coping skill. Not a good one though.

I realize that I’m skipping over lots of steps here, and I guess I’m just trying to imagine what those steps might be and how they might help me.
Exactly.

So I’m not at that place, so what’s the point in talking to her about it?

It’s much the same idea as... if I’m not starving, why eat?

Most basically, eating helps prevent getting to the point where you are starving. But there are a huge number of other benefits, as well. Homeostasis, metabolism, wound healing, bone density, organ health, etc. so forth & so on.

Talking about things in advance of being in crisis not only helps prevent crisis, but also has a huge number of other benefits as well.

I only talk about it when i am out of the zone.

The SI is too strong and i have to challenge the thoughts... tiring. Too tired to even reach out on here. The SI eat at me. Its the body dying since i am already dead once i am in that storm.

My T has helped alot when i tell him and we process it together and make plans to prevent SI.

SI has became normal so its hard to relate with normal people. They dont know how messed up it is to have regular SI.

To be safe we need to make care plan and or reach out.

I guess what I’m struggling with is...if I were really at the point that I were going to kill myself, I wouldn’t be talking to my therapist about it, I would just go do it. So I’m not at that place, so what’s the point in talking to her about it? I realize that I’m skipping over lots of steps here, and I guess I’m
Now is the time to speak to your therapist about suicidal ideation in all it's forms, go for it, it will help build trust, connection, problem solving abilities, capacity to manage bad times in therapy, if you do this now you are going to set yourself and your therapist up for success, as discussing it before a crisis will really assist you in your recovery.

Great questions and great thinking it through, keep up this great work!
