Do You Believe In Astrology

Hello all.

I suppose this post is not for everyone as some people are skeptical/sceptical about astrology/horoscopes/starsigns. However; for those believers out there, my brother-in-law, lectures on astronomy and is interested in finding out if there is any amplification of symptoms of PTSD.

Now, proper astrology is done with the aid of your place of birth (longitude/latitude), time of birth, and goes into the moon, planets, and position of the Sun. However, there are some characteristics that the majority of people under a starsign can display.

For example. I am a Virgo. Some of the characteristics of a Virgo are: Sober, Hates Waste, Loves Order, suffers from insecurity. Add on to that 20 years of being in the military (organisation and order), plus PTSD, and you get someone who has to has have a place for everything, hates waiting, and feels like the whole world is out to get them.

Now, my 12 year old son is a Virgo. He does not have PTSD (may exhibit some traits from living with me), is not in the military and does not have OCD, yet he will straighten the salt and pepper shakers on the table, fix up the soft drink at the registers in the shopping centre and even change the volume on the car sterio to an even number, I don't do that.

So, I have provided a list of the starsigns and their basic attributes. I am not saying that you don't have PTSD, I am just saying that if you believe that the planets, moon, and the starts affect you, it might explain amplification in some of your symptoms at different times of the year. If you don't believe, just don't comment. I would be interested in your feedback though.

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Inspiration, Initiative and Courage - Hot Headed!

TAURUS (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Sensuous, Loyal, Creative - Stubborn

GEMINI (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Clever, Active, Versatile - Pessimistic

CANCER (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Sweet, Enigmatic, Fanciful - Capricious

LEO (JULY 24 - AUG 23)
Independent, Free, Passionate, Generous (too trusting)

VIRGO (AUG 24 - SEPT 23)
Sober, Hates Waste, Loves Order, suffers from insecurity

LIBRA (SEPT 24 - OCT 23)
Gentle, Orderly, Rational, Prone to Depression

SCORPIO (OCT 24 - NOV 22)
Jealous, Intuitive, Serious and a little possessive

SAGITTARIUS (NOV 23 - DEC 22)
Faithful, Trusting, Sincere, Exhuberant, sometimes whimsical

CAPRICORN (DEC 23 - JAN 20)
Resolute, Melancholic, Cold Minded, (sometimes suddenly Impulsive)

AQUARIUS (JAN 21 - FEB 19)
Free, Active, Altruistic, bears grudges

PISCES (FEB 19 - MAR 20)
Subtle, Patient, Sweet and Tolerant, sometimes touchy.

Cheers all

Jimmy

Hey Jimmy

Yes, I do follow the signs and find them very interesting. My grandson and ex-husband are both Virgos, so I would like to add (since you are a Virgo too) that you are probably a very sensitive person. I am a Cancer.

Thanks for posting this!

I do indeed belief that things such as the moon affect us, very much so. If the moon can have such an large and obvious affect on the tides of something as vast as the oceans, and we are also consisting of mostly water, it only seems rational to assume we are also affected by moon phases and seasons. As far as interpreting this affect, this is where my belief in it gets sketchy.

Anyway, I am right on the beginning cusp of Scorpio (Oct 24th). Now can your brother-in-law tell me, when am I going to win that damned lottery?!? ;D

Dave

Well if the moon can affect the tides on the earth, and the human body is made up of over 50% water, 78% for babies, then its logical that we can be affected.

Well at least this conversation beats a lot of the negative conversations that have been around of late.

I also follow my horoscope, but half of the time, I think an idiot could write them, and have them come out pretty accurate.... BTW, I too am a Virgo, and I think that your description of a Virgo was pretty mild. you KNOW that we are a lot worse than that!!!! LOL!!!!!!

I suppose I forgot a lot of the positive sides to a Virgo too. The Full Moon gets me a lot though.
But seriously, I do think Virgo's are naturally obsessive compulsive at times. So add to that the PTSD side and WHAM, look what you have. hehe

I'm surrounded by academians and scientists, so am a closet believer. :) I have to say I'm as typical a Pisces as ever swam both ways, if one reads the descriptions, and apparantly with something 'rising' (?) in Pisces also so it's hopeless. I'm not really touchy, however, being more on the ridiculously tolerant side.

Funny to equate the sign attributes with PTSD, but I certainly tolerated an abuser right into a good dose of it.

It's a cool thread, thanks!

Anni

Awesome thread! I dabble into astrology. I am most interested in I-Ching though. It seems to be much more accurate for me.

I am a Geminii (also a twin! lol coincidence). I read the traits you listed: Clever, Active, Versatile - Pessimistic.
Pessimism is a trait I have never herd before for a Geminii before. Interesting. Growing up I was always the most optimistic person no matter what, but since my trauma my views have turned very pessimistic. But slowly, and surely, I am coming back to my old optimistic self again.

Love this thread Jimmy.

I am a Pisces, just. You are spot on with the description.

I have an interest in a lot of different things, maybe not the time and place to divulge it all on here just yet though.

Thank you all for the responses.

The whole idea of this post was to get a discussion going that did not involve negatives, sadness, and bickering. There is enough of that in every day life.

For me, I am also a dyslexic, atheist, insomniac, and lay awake all night wondering if there really is a DOG.

Nah, on a serious note, I don't really believe on those broad starsigns you read in the magazines and newspapers telling you that you will meet the partner of your dreams, or to buy a lotto ticket.

You could also state that if someone read your stars and told you that something bad would happen in April, you would be looking around for that bad thing to happen. I suppose its a personal choice.

However, my question with PTSD is this.

Just think. Your therapy is going well, your medication is stable, you are not putting yourself in a position to be exposed to triggers or some of the stressors that get you wound up; however, things are just not going right and you feel like crap. Well, next time check for a full moon. :wall:

You see, for me PTSD is a very broad umbrella term for multiple symptoms within a disorder, and a lot of people a very quick to just say 'Its the PTSD', when really there could be just other things going on in their lives.

I will get some more traits from by in-law and post them soon.

I am also buying some incense, some crystals and a crystal ball.

Sir Isaac :thumbs-up

Sorry I am a bit late Jimmy but everything significant (bad) which has happened in my adult life which brought about change occurred on a full moon.

I have tried the incense, essential oils & tarot cards at various times in my life. I own books on astrology & used to read the daily horoscopes.

I believe in the power of the oils & burn them when really low based on what I think I need eg. Peppermint & Orange when I need uplifting to get my work done, lavender when I need calming & bergamont when somewhere in the middle.

I think it's important to have something to believe in which in your mind you think is helping you. Thinking you are helping yourself is very powerful. It doesn't matter what others think.... The power of the mind.

I like the oils as the smells remind me that I am doing something to help me & I believe they work but hubby just complains about the smell.

Everything is personal & I think you can draw parallels to this type of stuff with religious beliefs and rituals.
