I typically fidget when I'm triggered or when I feel unsafe or just when I'm uncomfortable in a certain situation... Like when people try to talk to me about their personal issues it's like I feel trapped and want to run. But since it would be rude to run, I fidget. Definitely a self-comforting mechanism for me

Nope, not a fidgeter!

I used to have restless legs in elementary school, but that was a function of being forced to sit in the same seat for hours on end. The issue ended in middle school when I got to move every 45 minutes between classes.

True story:

My therapist asked me to sit still for two minutes to see what would happen.

My response: A whole two minutes?

Therapist proceeded to spit out her coffee.

We both broke down giggling.

Never thought of it that way. But I'm always moving my fingers. I guess it helps calm me. Weird when people say, you must play piano or another type of musician. Nope. But it does look like I'm playing music.

Maybe I should learn to play. There is definitely a pattern in finger movements. Maybe from previous life.

I've always fidgeted since a kid.....got many a slap for it as a kid. I seem to need to move my whole body, otherwise tension builds up and I physically ache, as well as my anxiety heightens. Even in sleep, without nightmares, I toss and turn.

I remember as a kid trying to stop myself for fear of a slap.....I remember sweating and my heart racing as I tried to stop myself and that terrible aching as I was going against what my body needed. Stress related?.....highly possible.

I rapidly move my feet alternating and have done it all my life. It goes back to being buried underground by my father and using this technique to calm myself. It's worked very since.

I have objects that I use to fidget with when I'm in a situation where I have to just sit and listen or talk, like in therapy or at an AA meeting. There are cool things that you can find on Amazon--look up tangles or Crazy Aaron's Thinking Putty--or just get some silly putty or play-doh at the dollar store. I carry a tangle and some thinking putty in my purse and use them all the time. Otherwise I wind up picking my nails apart.

Yes, often, but for me it is likely from my PDD-NOS (high functioning autism) not my PTSD.

I do fidget a bit. I usually end up biting my nails or playing with my cuticles until the area around my nails bleed sometimes. Or I click a pen which drives a lot of people nuts. My wife saw the fidget cube by antsy labs when it was on gofundme and got me one and I got it probably about a month or so ago now and I absolutely love. I waited forever to finally get it but it is totally worth it.
