wow, I just saw this poll! YES! I've been grinding my teeth since childhood. Was diagnosed with TMJ a few years ago.

Oh and once again I thought it was just me! Glad to know I am not alone doing this. I just started a couple of months ago

I think I clench. When I'm stressed or have nightmares I often wake up with a sore jaw on one side, but my teeth aren't sore.

I voted "unaware".. Though, I've known that I do so since the age of 15-16, I can't seem to stop it before my jaws go sore. Even then it's hard to just stop.

I've been grinding my teeth in my sleep since I was a little girl. Only a few years ago did I have a dentist who was alarmed at the extent of it, and made me a night guard which sort of clips onto my front two teeth. I wore that one down over the course of several years.

Last summer (pre-PTSD), I had a new one made. Since PTSD, I have ground on that one so badly that my lower front teeth have worn down to the point where they don't touch my uppers anymore. I try to bite together, and they don't meet. Now I wear a guard on my lowers too, although the damage is already done.

I clench my teeth all the time. I have now for over a year and I never knew exactly why. I'm glad to see i'm not alone in this annoying habit.

I've always been a grinder. Once my dentist told me about night guards, my general well-being improved drastically! No more waking up with headaches and a stiff neck.

It's a great investment to make!

my teeth by the dentist says i grind my teeth he said he would have to pull them all if i didn't wear a nightquard at night. so i am unaware of it as i do it in my sleep. i can tell by the night quard that i him doing it as the teeth marks don't line up quite right any more.

My Dentist asked me that question (cus my teeth show it) ,...too bad its never been asked of me from any of my psyc docs.
