Do You Have An Inner Soother? I Knew About Inner Critics But Not Inner Soothers!

I am most curious to know what other members know about this Inner Soother and what they are doing in a practical way of building up their Inner Soother.

Hi @Ms Spock, I mentioned the other day in a different thread that I have tried to foster in myself an "Inner Editor". An objective reader of my thoughts, who begins with a the raw manuscript of my thoughts in hope of not having to correct or suggest re-writes before my story is complete for the Inner Critic critics to see.

An Inner Soother can serve a more subjective, positive function at the same time. And the work of both, can effect or even de-fuse the bad reviews of the Inner Critic. Does all this makes sense. As an old journalist, I learned that with or without encouragement, everyone needs a good editor before tossing his story out for a hostile critic to maul. It might sound like a complicating extra step, but for me it is a long-standing precaution.

Sounds interesting @stillstanding2 and the main thing is that it works for you. It is great to see members creating and managing their own recovery and healing. Have you read David Burns`s book `Feeling Good` because is it possible that what you are doing is busting distorted cognitions?

I don't see the Inner Soother as in any way subjective though, common humanity means we all deserve human rights, and thus Self Compassion.

Have you read David Burns`s book

No, I haven't read that book, among others that are recommended. I have difficulty reading very much, and stay far behind. Perhaps the Inner Soother and the Inner Editor are a hybrid, but I( tend to think of the Soother as subjective biased toward me, to balance out the potential damage of the Inner Critic. The Editor's role is to be objective in making my story useful.

I shall listen to David Burns and probably others. However, it is important to me in my condition to respect and reinforce my own creativity in solving my own problems. My slow successes to free myself of self-doubts are dependent upon my own mental resources, and they are becoming stronger.

My inner soother is Jesus. He resides in my heart and comforts me when I am in need of comfort. Actually, it is His Holy Spirit that comforts and soothes me. This is all written about in the Bible, but you have to invite Him into your heart and life in order for Him to sooth you. He is a gentleman and won't intrude upon your life unless you ask Him to.
