JJ is performing EMDR on a trauma survivor..... ?!

Ok, I generally love the show, but NO! JJ is the public relations person turned profiler (I think something like that) and now she's qualified to do the work of someone trained to treat trauma patients? It would be nice if the show just tried to get it right. I mean bring in a therapist who regularly practices EMDR.

This episode is kind of irking me. Of course, I'm sure the entire show irks those who actually profile criminals for a living!

They also perform cognitive interviews. They don't treat people, they just look for informations.

I interviewed, once, a friend who came back home without remembering how, because he was too drunk. He was afraid that somebody put any drug in his glass. I could find that everything went fine, he simply got very drunk.

You can also find, in youtube, EMDR "videos" to do it yourself.

Yes, but how ethical is it for someone to be doing EMDR just to get info out of someone? EMDR wasn't created to purposefully draw out hidden or repressed memories and an untrained person performing EMDR can actually cause harm. I mean if that girl had flooding, the chances of JJ actually being able to help her were about zero.

EMDR on YouTube isn't exactly the EMDR that Ms Shapiro created. A knockoff at best, if you will.

Yes, I agree.

I suppose that, for script requirements, they can't go to a therapist every time they need informations by a traumatized person. I don't really know how it works in the real B.A.U. in this regard. At any case, a F.B.I. agent is not a therapist, they don't have to take care about the traumatized persons. And that's not the theme of the series.
You can't blame the scriptwriters for that.

This is a series, it has not to be exactly as reality.

For example, I know that real B.A.U. criminal profilers don't have a gun and don't run after criminals. ;)

I think I could really apply to the NCAVC school (to enter the Behavioral Analysis Unit) of the FBI.
