I am asking this because I am sad to say that I swear a lot more than I did before . I did not do this before. I have read articles that indicate that swearing helps the brain to process anxiety. It is not just a moral defect. So I am wondering if anyone has this issue.

I have started cursing more since I have started processing, but in the beginning (as a child through I'd say sixteen or seventeen), I was shy to curse because aggression and vulgarity scared me.

I can't tell since I've had PTSD since the age of 6. As I recover I swear less I guess but I've always sworn, like I'm known to say, "a truck driver and can peel the paint off a wall!" I have to watch my mouth around my Grandboys and and Daughter IL, they are very religious and my mouth can be unintentionally offensive.

I never really thought much about it, I don't find it offensive myself, it's just not a big deal to me. There are worse things I could be doing and have done, and since I've given up everything else fu** it! :p

it's strange, I used to swear a lot and now I seldom swear. *(but I have been known to drop the "f"-bomb from time to time) guess its an old habit.

Have always had a potty mouth. Grew up with boys, worked with men. I don't swear more now on average. I do an awful lot more thinking and talking and reacting to my emotions which has upped the amount of dialogue which as therefore upped the amount I swear. I find it gives me some sort of release.

I curse way more since I began to suffer from PTSD. I mean I always cursed but on a scale of 1-10 (10 being a lot of cursing) it was only a 4 or so. Now I'm about 8 to 10 depending on the day. I've tried to hold in the cursing but it physically drains me (if that makes any sense).

Bittersweet, that makes perfect sense! That is how i feel. If I hold it back too long, it feels like the way people who describe tics feel. I have a friend who has to go into the bathroom to let out his "tics" from Tourettes! He can hold them in only too long.

The hardest places are places like Church!!! No mercy there. LOL

It's one of the signs that things are getting out of control for me. On bad days it's appalling. I swear waaaay too much for my liking, and I have a feeling it's where my repressed rage has gone. I don't like it and try to stop often. Sometimes I say to the therapist,, "I'm going to swear the whole session today, okay?" I think as I get better it'll get less.
