I love chocolate too ;) 100% when I can get it, if not dark choc, then there is the obligatory daily hot chocolate drink. When I am feeling really bad I get terrible cravings for carbohydrates, but other than that I try to control my blood sugar levels and eat regularly: lentils, fish, veg, rice, fruit, whole grains, salads.

Nigela Lawson (the TV chef) says that everything succumbs to chocolate as that is the natural order of things ... i am so relieved, thought I had PTSD or something.

ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing) ! That's great. I decided not too long ago that I will never be out of chocolate at home again. It's an important part of my balanced diet. I prefer good quality dark chocolate or oddly M&M's which hold none of those qualities but are cheaper and I am happy eating them. (two at a time, let melt in mouth to just the right point where you still get a little crispness but the inside is melted)

Also, if things are really bad, mac and cheese eaten right out of the pot with a good movie does the trick. Other than my indulgences, I do try to eat a balanced amount of foods: whole grains, brown rice, veggies, fruits and protiens. This is so I'm healthy and to let myself indulge too :)

I use food a lot. I have a 2 year old granddaughter and I have used her as an excuse to have sugary stuff around the house. I finally had to get honest and admit that I was buying it for me. I can gorge until I am in pain. Somehow, the pain from an overstuffed, over sugared belly is better than the pain of sitting quietly and focusing on what I am feeling. I try to only buy good, fresh foods, but I slip a lot.

Then I have the problem of feeling unlovable because my body is not pretty.

I'm a champion stress-eater. It's habit I developed during my abuse. Morning break, go get a brownie with my friend. Afternoon break, go get something from the bakery with my friend. It's what we did. And now I have to learn to stop and man it isn't easy!

Serene - I also don't feel my body is pretty after what I've done to it, so you aren't alone.

I had anorexia, and then swung the other way when I got my diagnosis of depression. It is a daily thing to be conscious of meal skipping or binging on stuff. But I'm getting there and trying to focus on healthy eating as a creative interest and a way to manage allergies. If I manage better, I feel better, and my emotional state isn't as dim.
I am 9 pounds away from my goal weight after about 4 years of effort. I went from my high 208 down to 164. I didn't beat myself up about how long it took. My life pattern was to skip, starve, then binge. I was down to 100 pounds twice and 105 once. My "healthy weight" is 150. I set my goal for 155. I focus less on the scale, and more about practicing consistency at meal times, maximizing nutrition and making good choices. It has been working for me and I'm feeling stronger, even with moderate food allergies and intolerances.

My relationship with food swings from overindulgence to "soothe" to crazy calorie counting/measuring/weighing as a means to have control. ROFLMAO guess food is not something I'm meant to have a healthy relationship with either.

I used to be one of those people that was like "how on EARTH can you forget to EAT" and now I forget all the time - until something upsets me.

I'm a champion stress-eater. It's habit I developed during my abuse.

I started using food when I was a child. I used to come home from school, sit on the couch in front of the tv with a box of cookies or crackers and eat for 2 hours until my mom came home from work. I wasn't fat though. Now that I think about it, I don't understand why I wasn't fat. I was actually pretty thin.

Yep, I confess, I'm a stress eater too!

Even though i know why I'm eating the wrong things I still do it, at first it was just chocolate but since taking meds its anything that is sweet & carbs. Before PTSD I ate a really healthy diet & my weight was just right. Anyone got any hints & tips on how to avoid eating like this?

I also am a stress eater, so much so that I keep a loaf of bread, peanut butter and jelly at work so I know I always have that there if I need it.
