Does money buy happiness?

The question only begs more questions. In the circumstances presented where someone is using money against someone else as a tool or a weapon, it's easy to sympathize and say no. When you are living without basic essentials and have to make decisions about your health or a child's health based on what you can or can't afford, things look different. So the answer is, it's situational but, there are lots of things in life that money makes easier.

Yeah, I was thinking along these lines. If you are tens- or hundreds- of thousands of dollars in debt and you have trouble buying food, you might be willing to put up with just about anything if there was gold at the end of the rainbow.

Money may not be able to buy happiness, but it can significantly reduce the amount of stress you're under and provide an opportunity to do things you were never able to.

I have been very financially comfortable and very not. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind the stress reduction of having disposable income and cash reserve ample to cover unexpected events without stress ( not necessarily annoyance but discomfort) is something that makes life easier. I think a comparison can be made with the PTSD cup model. If you are financially stretched extra spend ( which occurs in all lives) can push you into discomfort both practically and emotionally very easily.

I have been miserable while financially comfortable; but not had the added stress of feeling precarious.

I have been happy when I had the least; but was lucky during that time, I had good health, and was aware of my luck at the time and knew things could be different .

Unfortunately I am well too versed in this subject. Does money buy happiness? No. Does getting screwed out of your inheritance buy happiness? No. It's time to use your reptilian brain. Most people don't have them but lawyers do. If your father's mental capacity is failing and a change was made to his will or your poa I'd look into contract law. Contracts are invalid in certain situations such as with minors or those like your father with a mental incapacity. Don't worry or stress over it and don't spend a lot of money especially if you're ready to throw in the towel. Talk to an atty and ask about changing of wills when mental incapacity is the issue. You have another issue that is very important that varies state by state if you're in the US. Ask about undue influence. I only read the first page of the thread and focused on your post. Your brother may be doing something criminal. If that is the case the state can prosecute which is great because the taxpayer fights the fight. I see money like this. If I make x dollars a year and can save x dollars how many years does it take to reach $1million? Everyone who works is trading their time for money. In life all we have is time so stealing money is stealing life which is shortening life. Go to an atty and ask some simple questions. With the facts you have what are the odds my case can be won? There are cases a lawyer knows he has a certain percentage of a chance they can win and then there are those cases that it's a matter of knowing they can't lose. Feel out your atty during the free consultation period, figure your cost based on the percentage chance of winning ( high % means lower fees/low % means high fees) and find out if it's criminal and if so release those free legal hounds. It's sad. You would think prosperity would bring people together but that has not been my experience. Think about this as well. If you bringing suit writes you out of the will you're screwed. If you don't bring suit your screwed. You have nothing to lose. Your relationship with your brother is already lost. I've been there and done that if you can't tell if you've read to this point. Don't waste much time and emotional energy on this. When an atty sees a $1 mil dollar pile of money they know they have a hell of a good chance of winning they'll work for it. Just make sure you hire someone competent. Wish you the best and feel free to pm me. I'll help you in anyway I can.
