ISH, in my area of Scotland, at primary school it was called "play time", and at high school it was "break time" and "lunch time". It would be very cruel if children everywhere in schools were not allowed "recess" :arghh;. I'm sure there was a kid's cartoon called that too. Recess does not sound as fun as play time :).
