Dreams

My therapist understands how painful they can be, but she doesn't seem too terribly invested in understanding meanings or things like that ...

Or maybe she can tell I do not really want to talk about it so she doesn't pressure

@Zoogal Can you address that further with him/her? If it is important to you, I think your therapist should make it important to them ... as in - perhaps they can steer you in the right direction to find help to gain more insight into your dreams, if they themselves cannot ... or even he/she could explain why they feel dreams are unimportant. Maybe that would be helpful as well.

I hope that made sense. :)

She says it's because science can't explain it. She says that they don't even know why we need sleep really much less what dreams mean so she doesn't address them at all.

Oh wow. I guess I understand what she's saying, but on the other hand, dreams do exist and there could be a meaning; we don't know, so why not explore it? I think there are websites that give a lot of feedback about dream interpretation and such. I am not sure, but could be worth checking out. Books, too ... or look into other therapists with this specialty or something if it's something you would like to explore seriously (and with feedback)?

I have read on here about people unlocking some things through dream remembrance and journaling. My t had suggested something similar for my nightmares, but I shot it down. :whistling:

My dreams are so f*cked up in nature, that even trying to put a meaning to them would take a team of drs, shrinks and then some. I doubt anyone could figure them out.

Some say that our dreams are symbolic of things that happen to us during the day. They say to write down your dreams immediately upon waking, and see if a pattern develops. I would need a truckload of paper. LOL!!!!

True, broadly speaking.

But the guys in the lab coats are starting to put together useful data. Like the very common dream that you're being chased by an unknown person(s), seems to be more common among people with an underlying anxiety issue.

But seperating it from the old wives tales is tough. Like, there's dozens of theories about why we have dreams about losing our teeth. But when I dream about losing my teeth, I'm pretty sure it's because I'm phobic about losing my teeth!

Therein lies the rub. Some dreams I have I reckon hold no real significance and are pretty much just my brain entertaining itself while I'm asleep. While others have very obvious signficance to me: watching my family members die in yet another apocalypse nightmare and feeling alone and helpless? Probly because I spend a lot of time feeling alone and helpless.
