Please be aware that the DSM 5 is released this month. Officially, the 22nd May, however; the book itself isn't released from the printers until closer to the end of May. Mine will arrive in June, at which point I will update the wiki page about the diagnostic criterion.

I will publish the relevant facts pertaining to PTSD at that time, after reading through the relevant sections.

There will be some who find they no longer meet the diagnostic criterion for PTSD, due to the strict changes applied and limited focus they've provided for the diagnosis, compared to the wishy washy current version.

PTSD Forum welcomes those diagnosed with PTSD, supporters and those who believe they have PTSD from a befitting trauma and are as yet undiagnosed. This has never changed since the forum opened.

What we don't allow is those who have other disorders other than PTSD, nor believe they have PTSD, and, those who have or haven't been diagnosed with it, yet don't have a trauma that meets the diagnostic criterion. A good example are those who claim they have PTSD from a relationship breakdown alone.

Will the DSM-5 be immediately adopted by the Veteran's Administration or will the VA need to form a committee to study it for a few years?
No idea. I certainly see the humour in any Government arm somehow needing to waste pointless time in creating committee's to create committee's, OR WORSE, a committee to ascertain whether another committee is needed to organise a further committee so x can be achieved. I'm with you... can't fathom their logic either. f*cken politicians is all I can say.

Adopting the policy isn't really a choice though for organisations globally... because when something is outdated, insurance and medical system ditch it and require the new diagnostic titles for processing. I would expect all branches to adopt it the moment they have them in their hot little hands, as the existing doctrine is technically no longer legal.

I suspect there will be an allowed cross-over period globally of 3 - 6 months before medical and insurance companies no longer accept the DSM IV titles.

Likely it is a US diversion to cut some services as they are hiring thousands of committees to determine Affordable Health Care. JMHO

Ok... I got my DSM V on Friday, so I will try and get the wiki page updated here with the latest diagnostic criterion next week, as well as provide the doctrine from the book associated with PTSD, that is often neglected to be mentioned by many sites online. Obviously I have to be careful with copyright, but I will mention the important points from the doctrine so readers have the complete picture, not a part of the story often associated online with diagnoses being published as though they're merely a tick and flick approach.

Thanks Anthony. You posted a video about the actual process of diagnoses at one point. Do you happen to recollect where that was? It was half way through a thread.
