In the past, I have done two years of art therapy with a previous counsellor, who has, since retired. That may change, after today's physical, when my nurse practitioner (NP) suggested this program to me, which I can walk, or take the streetcar to. I have agreed, to let my NP to forward my name, and see what happens from here. Not sure, if I will be accepted, but I can hope.

Love it!. How great to have a practitioner who appreciates alternative ways of processing trauma, through creativity. If ever possible, I'd love to hear how such work in the past has aided your transformation. I've used most types of therapy-voice, movement, writing, traditional psychotherapy and psychoanalytic, but I have never experienced Art Therapy.

Art therapy has been an amazing asset to me in my recovery process. i somehow can express my self and my emotions in a different way rather than trying to articulate them or even write them. I hope that you find it to be a valuable resource. Kudos to your nurse practitioner!

Thank you, Franciemarnie, Change and Joan. It appears to be a visual art program, in an artist's studio. Myself, I find writing poetry, a great release for me. Not sure that they want to be scared away with my brutal drawing or painting skills.

The biggest release came for me when I could just let go of preconceived ideas of what it is 'supposed" to look like and just feel it. It has been so powerful for me that I have set up an etsy store and have sold 6 paintings. There are still some that are just for me and getting stuff out as well. It is not about how good an artist you are, but how you let your emotions come out.

My problem is, these therapy sessions are group sessions, and I don't function well, in a group dynamic. It acts, as a trigger for me, of my abusive past, which usually involved a group attacking me, besides the abuse, at the hand of my brother.
