EMDR and shaking

I had EMDR yesterday and started shaking really bad. When I left I felt sick and my neck and arms were full of pain. I had a lot of twitching. I woke up in the middle of the night unable to move due to pain in my body. Today my body is achy and I’m still twitching.

What’s happening? My therapist wants me to write down what I feel, my inner child feels and my body. She said if my body could talk what would it say.

Ugh

Trauma response. I shake too. I hate it and I can't help it. Wish I didn't. I think it's good to write it down and sit with it a while. Keep in mind that the emdr is stirring things up and rearranging them in your brain. It is integrating your trauma memories. Don't judge the feelings if you can help it.... hang in there!

Yep - emdr sucks. It's effective - but it sucks.
The shaking, nausea pain is all pretty normal - for me it can last for about 24 hours. Think of it as your system rewiring itself. Lots of electric shocks. But it's totally worth it. Writing it down helps me a lot - plus then I can remember for the next session.
