Emdr With No Childhood Memory

I had a complete blank of a childhood for most of my life.

With trauma work, as I deal with the issues currently affecting my life, new memories are revealed. I have learned to trust that my brain knows what I can handle and reveals only what I am safe to consciously know.

I'm five years into my diagnosis, and a lot of my memories have returned, including many good ones. But I'm still in Eye-Movement-Desensitization-Reprocessing (EMDR) on a weekly basis, and I have become a true evangelist for trauma therapy. My life has never felt better.

... You could be risking overwhelm and retraumatisation. If you're going to try EMDR please make that decision based on having fully researched it, discussed it with your therapist, done lots of preparatory work with your therapist on safety and containment, and feel that it's the right thing for you to try.

I'm sure if the therapist feels that this person is ready to do this, then they are, and that the T will fill them in on what should be known beforehand. Yes, EMDR is hard to go through, but the results are worth it. A person just has to stick with it all the way through to get those results.

You have more absolute faith in therapists than I do. Especially considering that the therapist isn't a mind reader and will go on the information they're given - and then how many times I've read here people saying things like letting their therapist think they're prepared when they're not. For example, having "established" a safe place but the safe place doesn't actually work for them at all.

I'm also wondering if your view is based on having selective amnesia and having blocked much of your memory of trauma? Having EMDR on that basis. Since this is a major point for the question here.
