Hi there, after being abused for 5 years, I have shut down on the ability to be able to cry or get upset. Could any body give me any tips on this subject? Thanks
 
Therapy, Therapy and more therapy!!!

I had shut down and could feel no emotion. I did not understand what other people were feeling. But now I do!
 
OK,
That is unfortunate but I would suggest you have had the wrong therapists. I have found emotion is a very scary and unfamiliar being. But with therapy it has become more reasonable. If you are in therapy now ask the therapist about it. If not find one - and something like feeling/ emotion/ somatic therapy are all good starting points.

There are so many therapies aimed at feelings if you know what you are looking for.

Life without feeling is not good enough and you are right to feel short changed. I think you should push forward on this and get what you need. It will be difficult but is achievable.
