How does one keep perspective when a loved one has PTSD? What do you do that keeps you going? I know what works for me. What works for you?

I try to remember the guy that tossed me down in the sand, took my shoes off, and playfully pushed my warm feet into the ocean, then lovingly brushed them off. We then kissed and rolled around in the sand. (loving sigh) It was a perfect day.
It's not always hard to deal with, but i do still miss him terribly when he needs to isolate, but i understand.

Hi Foxtrot

It can be hard to keep going when you are a supporter, but I myself have learnt that my own life is important too. So I have over the last almost 4 years, built my own life up in a different way.

I took 6 months away from work, for my own benefit as well as my husbands, I know this is not for everyone, but for me it worked. I have now gone back to work 2 days a week, which is enough to keep me out in the world, away from PTSD for a few hours a week. I also go out with one of my daughter's usually once a month, when possible. I have plans to work from home eventually, and am now building up the equipment I need to do this.

Going out alone has been hard at times, especially as we always did most things together, now I do them alone.

4 years down the road with PTSD still takes its toll, but at least I have learnt that life for us does not stop when PTSD invades your lives. It may be put on hold for a while, adjustments have to be made, but it can still move forward with positivity.
