Falling Asleep Takes Forever!

since I stay currently at an emergency shelter I have a 9:00 curfew. Meaning that's when the lights go out. it's really frustrating when everyone is able to fall asleep within 45 mins and I'm laying there for hours. then when I do fall asleep I always wake up too early. I trouble falling asleep as a kid as well. I eventually outgrew that thankfully but now it's back. since I'm not yet in therapy or on meds, are there any "home remedies" that I could try?
 
I'm not too familiar with "natural remedies" but 25-50 mg of benadryl (diphenhydramine) should be sufficient to help you sleep. You are probably just not really ready to go to sleep so early.
 
I'm in the same boat unfortunately, it takes me ages to sleep I always have a disturbed night then shattered for work . I don't do prescribed medication I always tend to go for natural remedies , unfortunately I haven't found n e ting as of yet so I struggle along hoping each day will be better, I've tried tiring myself out but then I'm overtired , I read then I'm wide awake. I try nd do research for my job then I'm stressed it's just a vicious circle . So yes I would definately be interested in any other alternatives , sorry I couldn't help but wanted u to know there's problem thousands like you suffering with insomnia .
 
If you feel worn down or are lacking energy due to improper sleep, a hectic schedule or day-to-day stressors, learn how to fight fatigue naturally with insomnia herbs. Taking a few minutes for yourself and doing simple breathing exercises can be helpful, as can daily moderate exercise and getting adequate rest. Certain nutrients, botanicals and other compounds can also help to ward off or lessen the effects of general fatigue. Experiment with the following insomnia herbs and natural remedies for insomnia:

  • Magnesium and calcium. Oral magnesium supplementation has been shown to improve symptoms of fatigue in persons with low magnesium levels.
  • Eleuthero or Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus). Studies show that Eleuthero can help enhance mental activity as well as physical endurance.
  • Coenzyme Q10. This vital nutrient is involved in cellular energy production throughout the body.
  • Cordyceps, a traditional Chinese medicinal mushroom that may help fight fatigue and boost energy levels.

When I'm not on an insomnia jag, and it's just normal ADHD can't sleep for 3-4 hours after going to bed? Benedryl. Diphenhydramine is the active component, and it's also in TylenolPM and Unisom.

Similarly, stuffing myself into a food-coma can work sometimes (esp. if it's loaded with things like tryptophan -turkey- and heavy fats and proteins. This isn't something I can generally do due to Waists & Means. (Fat & broke).

If I'm on a PTSD insomnia jag? Nothing short of an Rx will help. Riding the wave for a few days until I can finally sleep.
