New Here
I was sexually abused by numerous people.. a few were family members. It's been a long hard tough road. I am completely numb right now.. I have been in therapy for years but finally went to a therapist who specializes in sexual assaults. I was happy for a while but now I am feeling nothing.. I feel nothing literally.. I have never felt like this before. I can squeeze out a tear here or there but pretty much feel nothing.. I would be scared about it if I could feel anything. My therapist says I am depressed but I have always been depressed and it has never felt like this. My PTSD symptoms are alot worse.. and I dont know what to do.. feel very alone.. Cant talk to anyone about this cause it drives people away when u talk about anything negative.. so I keep it to myself and my therapist ..

Hopefully someone may have experienced.this and can give you some suggestions. The only thing I can think of is maybe this new therapist is taking you to a point where you are overwhelmed. Maybe your bodys response was just to kind of shut down emotionally.

I hope you find your answer soon.

Welcome to the forum

You are not alone here. I'm glad that you found 'us'. It's safe to talk about anything here, no-one will judge you, and we all understand. Feeling numb, is a 'normal' reaction. Stick with your therapist and see what feeling emerge over time

:):)

Hi and welcome.
I understand the lack of feeling or numbness. I would agree that it is a result of you 'dealing' with the trauma that brings you here. You will have to work through it with the help of your therapist, and will come out the other side with (nice) feelings that you never knew existed... or so I have been led to believe:dance:

Welcome to the forum...
Please don't feel as if you can't talk about your experiences here, we are supposed to help each other. You won't chase anyone away with your story. I have found that, more often than not, others have had the same, if not worse, experiences. This helps me understand that I'm able to process my trauma.

As it has been said already, numbness is common while working on the past. I was numb for 20+ years until I started work with a therapist. You are on the right track, IMHO (in my humble opinion). See ya around...suzie q

Thank you all very much.. It's nice to have a place where someone else understands.. But at the same time I feel bad that so many people have been through this nightmare!..

Welcome to the forum. I hope you find the support you need here and also that you work out of your numbness soon. I know I preferred that when I was feeling numb, but in the end it just slows you down. But it is a normal reaction, just like the others: avoidance, hyper-sensitivity at times... Our brains help us deal as best as they know how to. By going to therapy you will learn new way of dealing, so keep your faith and keep strong!
