So doc told me a few weeks ago that my cholesterols high, I need to do cardio. Finally got around to ACTUALLY doing exercise today.
(FYI, great app called "couch to 5k").
6 minutes in, I start getting chest pains. At 9 minutes, chest pains are so bad I stopped at 10 minutes.

Sooo, I made an appointment to see doc tomorrow. But I hate this. I hate the anxiety of not knowing if it's "real" pain and I hate being that "hypochondriac patient".

I know exactly how you feel. I've been a smoker pretty much all my life so running long distances has never been my strong suit.
Have you talked to your doctor at all about your chest pains? You should tell him what you tell us. Be completely up front about it and he may give you some good feedback.

Uh...if you are going from couch spud to running...you may be going at that too fast? Try brisk walks first? See how fatigued you are with a 45 minute brisk walk.
Buuuut...Back to the doctor again, better safe than sorry.

Too, cholesterol's down to diet and bodily production of same. AFAIK, exercise isn't really going to drop bad cholesterol. You can be a gym bunny with high cholesterol.
Avoiding fatty foods ( particularly cutting way back on animal fats, because they are molecularly more likely to clog things up ), eating vegetables and fibrous foods ( which help lower cholesterol ), and taking statins if dietary changes do not work? All that will get your cholesterol where it needs to be.

Anyway...I do try to kind of stay in shape and it is...like doing housework. Tiring and never finished.:meh:

Slow and steady. Walking can do wonders - a year ago I was fatigued by just two miles of walking (that's only about 30 minutes), but now I'm walking upwards of nine miles a day and cycling about 25 miles a couple times a week. I took it slow and didn't feel like I made any progress, but a year later I can look back and feel really good about how far I've come. I've also lost twenty pounds and am much happier with how I look. Keep at it! (after you make sure you are medically cleared to do so).
