I went on an SIA retreat this past weekend and played "The Unicorn Song" on my guitar for the talent show. I've been struggling with this for almost two years. I've always wanted to play and even though I'd invested in a good guitar and started, I still struggled with practice. I decided when I got out of school this summer (I'm a teacher) that I would practice this song and play it at the retreat's talent show.......I DID IT ! I had a friend video tape it for me. She'll be sending it to me most likely later on today........I am SO PROUD OF MYSELF ! This was HUGE for me.

I did it and I didn't back down, even though I felt like backing down several times beforehand.....Everyone said they enjoyed it and my friend said some of them were even singing along......as soon as my friend gets it to me I'll post it.
YAY ME !

Good on you for not backing down! Congrats! What great feedback!

I finally found out after like thirty years what practice actually means. Three hours in a day is nothing to give to an instrument. I find (I had to start smoking pot again to be able to do this) I can play a little when I put real serious time in. It's a shame because I spent all those years feeling bad and telling myself I couldn't play it and putting it down and I didn't practice. Sure, it'd be nice to be gifted but I'm not. I do have the desire to play though and I think anyone can if you are willing to pay the price. An instrument demands a high price in my estimation. Muscle memory. I read one time about piano 'you are proficient at a piece when you can talk and play it at the same time.' I'm nowhere near that. I still keep playing it though. Something really magic happens after hours and hours. You can do things and attempt things you would never be able to do having just picked it up. It has a real sweetness. I have had a real lifetime love affair with it. I'm older now. I guess it'll always be there. I would have been an artist/musician but when I was a kid that stuff was for other people you know not 'people like us.' lol I'm feeling nostalgic I guess. Good thread!
